Yoda-esque Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Gavaskar has said the same thing many times.Dhoni has made practice sessions optional and most do not turn up on last away tours we did not get practice as we did not turn up for practice before the sa test while sa were practising and then the next day it rained and we had to go indoors. In 0-8 losses we were go karting and sight seeing while aussie were practising .There needs to be change in coach and captain permanently to change the culture. This culture has been ingrained since way before Dhoni. See from 3:30 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dugNWDW_mA&feature=youtube_gdata_player In any case MSD is one of the fittest and most athletic players in the team
putrevus Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Dhoni also needs to practice so he does not to look like tailender when playing in away tests. If Dhobi was any good with bat we would have won in NZ.
CG Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 This culture has been ingrained since way before Dhoni. See from 3:30 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dugNWDW_mA&feature=youtube_gdata_player In any case MSD is one of the fittest and most athletic players in the team Dhoni believes in fitness more than practice of skills in nets.Thats the problem.
Yoda-esque Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Dhoni believes in fitness more than practice of skills in nets.Thats the problem. So now you shifted your goal posts lol
CG Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 So now you shifted your goal posts lol Thats what i have been saying for years now from australia tour.Practice sessions cannot be optional ,cricket is a skill based game fitness is important but unless u can imrove on skills u will end up trying to walk and defend and do all kinds of funny things.
fineleg Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Why do you need to slog your butt off for years and years for Team India? Lalit Modi created a monster (unknowingly) that helped formulate a new template for our next or next-next gen: Do work hard in U-19 and domestics for a short time, gain your fame by playing excellent for Team India briefly (if selected), and then once you have made it large, then make money off IPL for rest of your career? Easy.
Lord Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Why do you need to slog your butt off for years and years for Team India? Lalit Modi created a monster (unknowingly) that helped formulate a new template for our next or next-next gen: Do work hard in U-19 and domestics for a short time, gain your fame by playing excellent for Team India briefly (if selected), and then once you have made it large, then make money off IPL for rest of your career? Easy. So you think before IPL players gave it all for India because of money?
Pagalpanti Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 India goes through a rut and blame game starts.. as usual IPL and Match practice are the targets.. :cantstop: Honestly these 2 losses didn't hurt much because the team fought & fought well and that is what is expected of them. It was written on the cards that our batting will take a hit after Raina got axed and then with Dhoni's injury. In fact our bowlers stepped up big time.
fineleg Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 So you think before IPL players gave it all for India because of money? You can try to make this as black or white, 1 or 0. Its not binary. There is an effect and it is not the sole effect. This is among a few other parameters.
putrevus Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 So before IPL came into existence India was winning right left center and was all time greatest side. It is utter nonsense and ridiculous to blame IPL , IPL only has helped Indian team. IPL or no IPL Bhuvi is not going to become Malcolm Marshal. Warner got into lime light due IPL but he has done very well for Aussies.
ThePhenomenal1 Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Fact: we can't always win Fact: our bowling has not been good enough to win Fact: this is because of our system that makes flat pitches, short boundaries, less reward for bowlers to win matches for india, overusing bowlers like shami, confusing bowlers, being defensive thanks to dhoni, no proper bowling coach. Fact: BOWLERS WIN YOU MATCHES. Anyway, i hope that we didnt skip practice. A new change is needed with our thinking. It must have been the scheduling. Kohli would never want to skip practice unless he needed a break.
ami123 Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Some of Gavaskars comments have been pretty poor recently!
Haarkarjeetgaye Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 dont understand what wrong is he saying. work ethic looked poor and even presence of mind in crucial situations was found wanting.
rkt.india Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 They need to practice how else these morons can bowl at least one yorker in 50 overs. Bhuvi, Aaron, and pandey wtf have they done why cant they practice. Only Pujara and Aaron turned out for practice along with Joe Dawes.
Midfielder Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Only Pujara and Aaron turned out for practice along with Joe Dawes. and both did not play.
rkt.india Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 and both did not play. People thought they will be playing because they practiced hard but I knew they wont play.
Chandan Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 This is an old problem' date=' not just now. Dhoni doesn't believe in practice before matches. Same happened under Gary with seniors and that same thing is going on now when we have youngsters now. It had become a trend in Indian team now, Dhoni in team or not. Only practice can make these youngsters better. Why guys like Rahane or Rayudu needed rest or DK?[/quote'] What on earth rkt? Seniors? Their work ethic had to be one of the best in the world if not the best. Can't remember any cricketer practicing as much as what Sachin, Dravid, Kumble etc did.
rkt.india Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 What on earth rkt? Seniors? Their work ethic had to be one of the best in the world if not the best. Can't remember any cricketer practicing as much as what Sachin, Dravid, Kumble etc did. We used to have optional practice sessions since Gary Kirsten and yes, seniors. Remember Australia tour and go carting. Weren't seniors there? Originally, It was Dhoni who brought this trend and Kirsten agreed to his suggestions. Seniors also followed him. Dhoni never believed in too much nets during a series. His focus was more rest and switching away from cricket when not on ground. Regarding seniors, yes, their work ethic was good but that approach worked with them as they did not need much practice unless and until they were out of from. SRT never used to practice too hard before a series. He would just have a few throw downs to have feel of the ball on the bat, but when he was not in the nick or out of form, he used to put hard yards. Gavaskar said the same thing on Aus tour in 2012 about Indian team's practice sessions being optional. It is the youngsters who need practice to hone their skills and that Dhoni's approach which worked with seniors wont work with youngsters. Temujin Khaghan Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 actually all 4 sachin, dravid, laxman and ganguly would put in lot of effort in the batting sessions during kirsten's time. they had to be pulled out forcibly by gary to give some batting practice to the bowlers before they left to the hotel. also all of them were very lazy when it came to running. they wouldn't run as much as is required for a sportsman to stay fit. kirsten had to run along with them, to put them to shame in case they gave up in between. dravid was better and ganguly was the worst. luckily laxman's week knees was a plausible reason not to run so much, whereas sachin's stiff back and tennis elbow were of little use :p i read this in thehindu, some years back... 2009ish
