Switchblade Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/top-stories/Zaheer-Khan-is-clearly-past-his-prime-says-Venkatesh-Prasad/articleshow/31859027.cms Zaheer Khan is clearly past his prime and is struggling while bowling his second spell, former India player and bowling coach Venkatesh Prasad suggested on Tuesday. "Technically, Zaheer is fantastic and has an excellent seam position. But I have seen him struggle a bit during the second spell in the longer format," Prasad said," One of the reasons behind that could be his age and the injuries he has suffered over the years. He has been playing for 14 years now and that's not a small thing. His fielding is a big liability and you can't count much as far his batting is concerned. But as a bowler he is outstanding, especially in the initial spells." Asked if it was time for Zaheer to call it quits, Prasad said, "We need to allow him to take the decision and help him in the process." While Prasad refused to comment on Sunil Gavaskar's call to drop Duncan Fletcher, he agreed Rahul Dravid would be a good coach, as suggested by Gavaskar. "Mr Gavaskar has been a great ambassador for the game and has his opinions and views. Talking about Rahul, he is a very hardworking cricketer and a very good thinker of the game," said Prasad. "I agree with what Mr Gavaskar said. Rahul Dravid is very well respected and is a very good student of the game. For the last 14 years we have had foreign coaches. I think it's time to give former players a chance." Prasad said the new field restrictions in ODIs had made bowling a tricky affair and there were no Indian bowlers who had caught his imagination in recent times. "Bowling with four fielders outside the circle is not very easy. There are more gaps. You need to be confident to bowl in such situations and have a lot of variations in your bowling. There are not many Indian pacers who have caught my imagination." Prasad also said Indian bowlers needed to be consistent in the death overs. Prasad also said he would himself love to return as India bowling coach. "I would love to be the bowling coach again. I have been coaching from the time I retired. It will be an honour and a privilege."

Gunner Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 How good was Venky as a bowling coach? I know few here blame him for Ishant's downfall but I don't believe that's true.
diga Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 How good was Venky as a bowling coach? I know few here blame him for Ishant's downfall but I don't believe that's true. From Sep 15 2007 to Oct 15 2009 when Venky was the bowling coach ODI - record : won lost only 19 off 60 matches, but bowled out the opposition in 23 matches, We also took on an avg 7 wkts per match http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=2;filter=advanced;home_or_away=1;home_or_away=2;home_or_away=3;opposition=6;orderby=team_wickets;size=100;spanmax1=15+Oct+2009;spanmin1=25+Sep+2007;spanval1=span;template=results;type=team;view=innings Post Venky, we played 132 matches http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=2;filter=advanced;home_or_away=1;home_or_away=2;home_or_away=3;opposition=6;orderby=team_wickets;size=200;spanmax1=12+Mar+2014;spanmin1=16+Oct+2009;spanval1=span;template=results;type=team;view=innings bowled out the opposition in 45 matches, took on an avg 7.4 wkts per match and won lost 48 matches not much difference ps: I know this simplistic analysis doesnt include a lot of things like bowling avg/quality of bowlers/pitches.. but still says that the post Venky period & Venky period are not much different

rkt.india Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 Venky got boot because we lost T20WC then in 2009.
Lord Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 Venky got boot because we lost T20WC then in 2009. no because hes Indian.Eric Simmons and Dawes did far worse and got longer ropes.Dawes is still hanging on to his job somehow
putrevus Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 Venky got boot because we lost T20WC then in 2009. that 2009 world cup was lost due to two people jadeja and dhobi with bat and Dhobi with his idiotic captaincy and batting order.
CG Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 no because hes Indian.Eric Simmons and Dawes did far worse and got longer ropes.Dawes is still hanging on to his job somehow True ,Kirsten wanted his mate simmons and sacked venky.I said the samething back then and we had debates about racism ,Now we look at how much long rope foreign coaches who have not even played much international cricket get and i look back at the known guys who were debating at that time and :hysterical:
putrevus Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 Losing Venky was not a big deal but getting Eric Simmons and fricking idiot Dawes were a bigger blows , these two morons have totally screwed Indian bowling resources. Venky at least taught what he know, that change up was the reason why Pissant picked up that wicket of Morgan in CT.
diga Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 BTW the thread is about Zak being past his prime :--D
vvvslaxman Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 yea Talk about Zak guys lol. Zak should have retired gracefully. HE is hurting India badly. If he wants to be a mentor, let him be bowling coach.
putrevus Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 BTW the thread is about Zak being past his prime :--D except dhobi everyone including Zak himself knew that fact after first test in SA.
