Texan Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 If there was a gun to your head and you had to pick one, which one would you prefer? I will try to post my interpretation of the pros and cons of each leader. You can add your own and I may accommodate in the OP. J. Jayalalitha - Pros: Decisive leader Popular policies like Re.1/- idli (can also be considered a con) Has overwhelming support in her home state Has undertaken multiple initiatives for empowering women Cons: Absolutely no presence outside her state Known to change stands at the drop of a hat Can be extremely vindictive of political rivals Alleged to have amassed wealth well beyond known sources of income -- Mayawati - Pros: Heads a regional party with national ambitions (at least tries to put up a candidate in almost every single seat across states) Party she leads has some presence in states outside her home state Completely in control of her party Cons: Not a great development record Alleged to have amassed wealth well beyond known sources of income Spends lavishly on what many would consider frivolous expenses (birthday celebrations, extraordinary number of statues) Support in her home state for her not as strong -- Mamta Banerjee - Pros: Sets exceptional standards in frugality (could even put Gandhi to shame on frugality) Has cultivated a nice mix of members within the party from media-friendly faces like Derek O'Brien, Dinesh Trivedi to street politicians Was able to achieve what many might have considered an impossible task in WB - upstage the Left Immensely popular in her home state Cons: Known to be anti-development (a news show even referred to her as more left than the Left) My way or the highway approach Also known to switch sides at the drop of a hat No presence outside her home state Extremely vindictive of political rivals --- Take your pick. It does not have to necessarily be your first choice for party. But, if you only had these 3 options... On a side note, it looks like all 3 of them might have significant roles to play in the post-election scenario.
Texan Posted March 14, 2014 Author Posted March 14, 2014 ^ I expected that kind of a response. It is supposed to be a fun exercise rather than an endorsement of any of these leaders.
adi B Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 NO ONE!! but still i love my life so out of these poor choices,i'll pick jaya
velu Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 comparing jaya with mamta and maya  i prefer jaya over modi :orderorder:
velu Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 jaya amased a fortune during her first tenure .. absolutely no doubts .. her second term was decent and but her current rule doesnt have any serious complaints.. she was unlucky to lose in 2006 because of cunning karuna and her stubbornness .. :((
Raghav_12 Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 Mamta.. self made person. Lot of respect the way she fought her way to top. Honest leader. Other two leaders have poor record on corruption front. In fact Mamta would not be a bad choice if her socialist streaks can be kept in control.

Yup there is another party which will not be a bad option if socialist streaks are in control.
someone Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 I know least about Jaya so I'll pick her ! True this, many people don't know much at all about Jaya so more likely to choose her.
Raghav_12 Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Yup there is another party which will not be a bad option if socialist streaks are in control. I agree. That worries me a bit.
Gollum Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Amma is a good administrator and a decisive one, she's my pick. 2nd is Didi because she is very simple, incorruptible etc. Last is Behenji.
