This guy has performed in past away from subcontinent, and he is not going as main opener if other guys perform it means team is doing well team doesn't need him otherwise he is not a bad back up guy to have.

They wont be given same rope and they should not be given same rope, before given long rope Gambhir was one of main reason of India becoming no1 and his opening partnership with viru was one of the best in history of the game. Dhawan and Vijay have done no such thing so if they fail during first half of the tour they will be kicked out as they should be.

His opening partnership with viru was responsible for our series loss in England and Australia. They never gave a decent start and could not negotiate new ball to save their lives.Pokemon should improve his technique before he wants to wear India colors. As of now, dhawan and vijay are here to stay whether you like it or not

Multiple times? IIRC, he was dropped only once by McCullum. Did very well to contain himself.

Slip Fielding and not pace bowling will be our biggest problem in England Even if our attack creates a lot of chances with the new ball there is no one to catch in the slips....Aswhin,Kohli etc all suck with their slip fielding.....Jadeja and Rahane are 2 our best and most athletic fielder,so not sure if they should be at first slip. Also Lazy Dhoni will leave a lot of chances to slips even when most good keepers would go for them.....This makes slip fielding all the more important for Indian team.

Had we held on to our catches, it could have been a clean sweep in the NZ test series for India. Also dropped Smith early in the 1st Test in SA when they were chasing. Things would have been so much nicer.

Created same thread abt catches before SA tour. Dhoni doesn't believe in specialists for slips. He keeps on swapping them.

NZ dropped a few catches as well - Dhawan on 0 in the second innings at Eden Park, if I recall correctly. But one thing India do need to do is bring the slip fielders and Dhoni a couple of steps forward once the bowlers lose their pace. there were too many edges that didn't carry in Wellington.

So what if he was dropped he did score a 100. Mooli did a fine job of seeing off the new ball & absorbing the pressure. Has gambo done any of it even against domestic trundlers except one century in entire season.

Dhoni becomes a bot after not getting wickets for while. He used to be thinking captain. He just goes through motions in test matches after a period.

Where slips stand depends on where the keeper is standing. Dhoni kept standing miles back even though zak & pisshant were bowling 120kph thunderbolts so most of the catches kept falling short. Also no matter who stood in slips kept dropping dollies. Seriously never seen such awfu.l slip catching

Our Slip fielding sucks and to add to that our keeper sucks keeping to seamers....VVS and Dravid's retirement's biggest impact as a lot of us have said is more than their batting,it was their slip catching. Also the surprising thing is even our best in-fielders like Kohli and Raina suck when fielding in slips.Maybe Jadeja will do well,Fielding is probably the most naturally gifted aspect of his all round skills anyways

Raina is very good at slips but unfortunately, he cannot make the team. He held on to some good catches in CT. Ashwin can be good too, but needs to get fitter and more practice. He too had some good catches in CT. His catch in final of Cook was very good.

Disagree with OP. To get the slip fielders into play you need a good fast bowler to deceive the batsmen first.

Has been a problem for last 3-4 years when Dravid and VVS declined as slip catchers and we have never recovered ever since.

We do not have any good slip fielder. Going by our slip catching success ratio over past 4 years or so, i am expecting at least 2 dropped catches in slips every innings. Having failed to even have one quality slip fielder, there is no way we can have a reliable established slip cordon in next couple of years.
