Austin 3:!6 Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Many (mostly oldies:giggle:) consider IPL as a Tamasha league and a pension plan for cricketers. T'20 is not a true format of cricket to start with and in IPL with so many mediocre domestic cricketers the quality of cricket is not all that great. Though we have seen some made their mark in international cricket having IPL as the stepping stone. Pollard, Malinga, Ashwin etc. Johnson's Ashes return and his enormous success in test cricket is due to the confidence he gained last year by playing for Mumbai Indians. But in general IPL greats don't have much success in international arena. So do you think selectors should consider IPL performances for selecting national side?
Old guy Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Pollard sucks Malinga was great in odds even before ipl Ashwin did well in rahi and all his variations were created before IPL like carrom ball Johnson returned against Lanka and injured 3 players we can keep saying IPL helped him but it didn't heck why did he not lose confidence after thrashing in India? He works swith Lillie to change action, run up which made him much more consistent and confident Also IPL should be used for selection in t20 but then you have guys like Bhatia performing here who such and Balaji who does well enough here but sucks in International so even for t20 you do not get good performers who are good enough for international cricket

He made him define his role.

Spin bowlers improve with age, pace may not be the case. Some of the best batsman are up in age so that should not matter. IPL should be one of the criteria and Duleep trophy the other.

Duleep is important. the selectors should have a scoring system based on domestic performance , performance e vs superior opposition , A tour performane, overall skills, etcto be safe from favoritism allegations

Test no way, straight example is based on IPL performance who could say Pujara is our leading test batsman.

I think IPL for selection should carry some weight.
SLICKR392 Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 Batting should be considered for youngsters or upcoming players who give us some hope for the future. IMO, good bowler's performance should be take into contention more seriously. Not the Dindas and Vinays though.

Tambe didn't even play for domestic cricket before he got selected. So that's why he wasn't noticed. He was selected directly into IPL and look how he is performing. He was also the leading wicket taker in CL.

Marut Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 For bowlers - yes. T20 is hard on bowlers and one who does well here certainly deserves a look in. For batsmen - IPL is a batsman's game and only exceptional performances in IPL along with good FC record may be considered.
