Why cant we hire McGrath as bowling coach until WC15?

why cant we hire mcgrath for england, australia tour and until WC15? serious question... mcgrath can be a huge influence on our pace bowlers and he is jobless at the MRF coaching teenagers. also all the oldtimers have left the team, so there are no awkward situations too. mcgrath can definitely add a new dimension to bhuvi and co. pak bowlers and Saffer bowlers are better than us and still they get coaching from Akram, Younis and Donald. ---- this is the last news about him working with Indian bowlers in feb this year Former Australia pacer Glenn McGrath may work with the Indian pacers soon, according to a report in the Times of India. The MRF Pace Academy in Chennai, where McGrath is currently working as director, has submitted a proposal to the BCCI, which if accepted, will help the two bodies work in tandem. According to the plan, a selected few bowlers working with the Nation Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore will be sent to MRF where they will be trained under the supervision of McGrath. McGrath, who represented Australia in 124 Tests, 250 ODIs and 2 T20 internationals, termed it as a good chance to work with the young crop of Indian bowlers. "It will be a great opportunity. I would love to work with the young Indian crop," McGrath told Times of India. The performance of the Indian bowlers was highly criticised in their recent 4-0 drubbing in the ODIs in New Zealand and, McGrath observed something that they failed to execute against the Kiwis. "I haven't seen a single bowler who can bowl six good yorkers...If he can, I am sure the batsmen won't be able to take him apart that easily," McGrath said. Joe Dawes, another Aussie, is currently the bowling coach of Team India.

All these ex cricketers are more of a celebrity than actual tutors. They show up once in a blue moon have say couple of sessions click a few photos & disappear for months until there's a function / felicitation ceremony.

our captain doesn't encourage fast bowlers too. I haven't seen a spearhead of our attack in his 7 or 8 years of captaincy. If you compare with ganguly we had zaheer, nehra. Gangualy used to play only one spinner on tours. Fast bowlers will not like to work under him. He prefers spinners. Even if mcgrath is the coach I dont see much improvement unless their is a change in thought process.

Bowling coach can't do much unless the captain backs his bowlers... Just wait for Dhoni to retire and then bring in new ideas and changes...

MYTH Under Ganguly as captain, Zaheer had as good a test record as Ishant has! Zaheer's test record under Dada - 36 tests, 102 wickets@36 Nehra's test record under Dada - 16 tests, 41 wickets@41 Some spearheads those two.

I don't think macgrath has the time to be a full-time coach. Otherwise he would already been a coach of some test team. Even at mrf, he only stays for 3-4 weeks spread across 2-3 stints.

No Mcgrath never advises that. To slow down. He always says bowl fast if you can. He himself used to say in his playing days that he used to try to bowl as fast as he could. It is not like he compromised his pace for accuracy, no.

not sure about pakistanis (akram, waqar, akthar) as coach. ball tampering history can be too bad for a coach. craig macdermott, jason gillespe, alan donald, damien fleming can be good coach for indian team. most are already coaching teams. but i guess bcci has enough money to get them. the way australian bowlers work out each batsman in test is unique. i hope an aus bowling coach can instill those abilities into the promising indian bowlers. i have read a jason gillespe interview where he discusses strategies used by them during the golden periods like aggressive bowling with defensive fields, defensive bowling with aggressive fields, ...

Actor as a coach would be disastrous. we would need police to oversee coaching/training sessions.

Donald does not have a good record as a coach. He was a great bowlers. Usually great players do not translate into great coach. For me, Jason Gillespie can be very good. He has done it as a coach at County level and was not as gifted but knows how to reach that level.
