To either batter has to play backfoot punch or pull. Mavi has decreased his pace considerably, lot of his balls were under 125 kmph when he played for Ind in T20s, Last/previous to last ranji season when he was picking up bunch of wkts speedometers was showing him bowling under 125 kmph, few were as slow as 118 kmph. Yes domestic speedometers are not that accurate but there can not be a difference of 10 kmph i suggest then mavi should retire and become a coach tapandrun, express bowling and Mosher 3 Link to comment

express bowling
What works in.Ranji Trophy does not necessarily work in Test matches. So, checking stats of every Ranji pacer is not relevant while shortlisting players for test cricket. This is where a good selector comes in, who understands the above facts and acts accordingly. MediumPacer
ranji backbenchers wont make it either but then batsmen and spinners can be picked based on stat tables,it's mostly pacers that struggle. Link to comment

Even unde4cutter has crazy stats in ranji but he struggled alot vs Bangladesh itself express bowling 1 Link to comment

Of missed chances A pacer can bowl well still may not get wickets for fielders dropping catches, flying through edges etc No. Of matches played,if a fast bowler gets to play 5-5+ matches and still ends up with 30-35+bowling average shouldn't be given leeway either+ one should also take into account number of wickets against weak sides or wickets picked after the match is well and truly gone due to batsmen taking chances etc Edited March 13 by Suhaan express bowling, tapandrun and Mosher 3 Link to comment

express bowling
1 hour ago, Vijy said: can't ignore their records, can't over-weight them. balance is needed. 1) Create a pool of players who have the necessary attributes to succeed in international cricket. 2) Groom and guide those players who have the attributes needed in international cricket but don't have good stats in domestic cricket. 3) Create a smaller pool from the above pool, consisting of players who have good stats in domestic cricket. 4) From the above pool, pick those players for international cricket who are performing in big matches or under pressure. P.S .... I used the term "necessarily" in your quoted post for this reason. Mosher, tapandrun and Vijy 3 Link to comment

Pitch started as a green, later turned into a flat pitch with lot of bounce. Mukesh bowled well with new ball, as soon as conditions flattened he became useless. Kuldeep Sen tore through Saurashtra with old ball in first inns and then absolutely crushed second inns and took a 5fer. Was bowling fast and with bounce. Got the wicket of Pujara in both inns courtesy of his pace and disconcerting bounce. https://www.cricbuzz.com/live-cricket-scorecard/52834/saur-vs-roi-irani-cup-irani-cup-2022 Mosher and express bowling 2 Link to comment
Nikhil_cric
Akashdeep bowls decent Test match speeds and has good new ball skills. Not that good with the old ball but that can improve. Why wouldn't he work on a bouncy track ? Link to comment

Knows how to pick wickets in FC and is 135 k+ in his slower spells. He is likely to be better than most other Indian pacers on bouncy tracks, barring Bumrah. Mosher and Vijy 2 Link to comment
