It's the captaincy

Wouldn't really call them 'toothless' after their effort today on a dead pitch. That is just naive and harsh!
before the series began all were like we'll be rolled over. Now we're in this position they still complain

We still complain because this is not the first time we got into great positions and lost it from there. If getting into good positions were all it took, we would have been very happy with all previous overseas tours

This is NOT THE 0-8 TEAM! This is a new team that's hungry.. except the captain! Yes the graph is going up but will only continue when we actually win. I think our players would be fed up with sniffing blood only to lose or draw when we could have possibly won. As the SA and NZ tour showed, its not a contest of who wins the most sessions. Its about winning at the right time and we had that chance and gave it away like england did with shami and kumar albeit their brilliant batting. Its sad that he got defensive when he needed to attack the most. Otherwise he was way better than cook

Agree with that but as far as I know the game isn't over. So why hurry with your judgements. Also you can't just always roll over the opposition. Even a 80-100 run lead here would ensure India remove loss out of the equation.

Indian fans will never be satisfied... The boys have done well so far... A team having new players and on first tour to England has done well so far...if you think England will just roll over and play dead, you are asking for too much... Have some patience...

It isnt but when we had them at like 290 odd for 9, we should have gone for it but didnt. We were more scared about the tail wagging. Not that many short balls and the field wasnt even in half the time. I understand you cant always roll over but we are squandering our chance of a win. We need an early wicket and some quick but sensible runs. I just wish we always went for the kill when we desperately need an overseas win like now. Beat them while we can and set the scene for the series!

Truth is, india have outclassed them and the english supporters have even appreciated our performances. What im annoyed with is that even if England dont play dead, we dont even TRY to get the tail out. No short ball and close fielders for anderson. No keeping root off strike. No intent to get that last wicket, just thinking it will come. Thats not on.

The problem is attacking a tailender can go both ways. We saw how English pacers failed to take out Shami. 350-9 could've well been 390-9, for a tailender surviving is more tougher than slogging it out having attacking field around him. It is a patient game.

I guess not the worst performance by dhoni.....freaky things like this 10th wkt partnership happens, could have done a little more hell yes but not as bad as he is usually is....overall still an ok situation

Ultra defensive captaincy of MSD will ruin everything. They should've attacked Anderson with silly point, short leg and 3 slips. And also keep Joe Root away from strike as much as possible.

You have to be aggressive against the tail generally speaking. The English tail faltered in Australia and against Sri Lanka because of pressure bowling and attacking fields. I remember Dhoni putting back fielders in Australia with Siddle and Pattinson batting in the 1st test at Brisbane. I think the assumption is that they will slog it straight to a fielder but it is not a ODI.

Dhoni doesnt want it badly. Angelo mathews wanted it badly. Thats why he kept on attacking anderson right down to the last over and he won. You have to risk losing. You have to work on weaknesses
Spot on. Dhoni has lost his willingness to win at all costs , for the last 3 years. Lack of accountability plus too much cricket has made him average. He just goes through the motions. He is perhaps not even enjoying his cricket any more.
