Indian history overseas stinks so it is not big deal when that history was bettered by players who are termed as all time greats and greatest ever players. Except one series in Pakistan in fab4 era never won more than one test in an overseas series and that was not just due to bowlers not doing their jobs. But they lost tests like there is no tomorrow with stinky performances ever where against even zim too. Hope the new guys dont follow the legacy of fab4 in stinking overseas as batting unit.we don't need stats from them we need teamwork from them.

We are not going downhill, we are doing fine as far batting is concerned. When did batting only with five batsmen indian scored over. 450 in an overseas match anytime during fab 4 era on any non sub continent pitch. It is a very positive and bold step to play 5 batsmen except binny was wrong selection.
maniac Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 I have noticed one thing-most hardcore sachin fans are automatically fans of every member of the fab 4 or fab 5(srt,r.d,vvs,dada and sehwag) but the hardcore r.d fan or cheerleader(usually pakis) for some weird reason hate srt wonder why Anyways back to topic putrevus,you need to realize one thing,our bowling was not our strong suite so yes drawing a test is as good as winning for us,once in a while when a bowler came up with the odd mercurial performance we won too but the fact we didnt lose often is credited to our fab 4 or 5. As far as the young upcoming members of our batting goes,there is great potential there and more importantly opportunities.....we used to tour sa,aus and eng every 7 yrs but these days it is every 3-4 years,so these guys will pick up their games to play in these countries better but not taking anything away from them....will be great as an indian fan if they are better than our best but it is too early to compare. In 3-4 years this might be a relevant debate but until then it is a pointless debate.
adi B Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 Each of the fab 4 avg 40+ outside SC and they regularly scored 500+ in most of the series barring saf.the present guys are very good but they have to perform well regularly ,still early days.hopefully they'll do better than the fab4

Scored 500+ twice in eng 2002,twice in aus 2004,twice in Windies 2006,twice in aus 2007,twice in pak 2004,twice in nzl 2009. These are great scores but the thing is that our tail used to contribute back in those days but now its just useless so a possible 500+ score gets shunted to 400 odd
adi B Posted July 13, 2014 Posted July 13, 2014 Everybody is blaming Dhoni for 0-8 rightly so , but what about the roles of fab 4 in these stinkers, They stunk up far more times overseas than they did well. More importantly they rarely performed well as bating unit. Guy like Ganguly especially acts as if he was don Bradman overseas . Avg of 41 outside SC for a SC batsmen playing at 5,6 is excellent.he ranks in top 10 for highest avg for a SC batsman outside SC IIRC

In their first 3-4 away tour, we did have a 66/100 all out kind of situation, or a failure to chase 120 in 4th innings or a loss vs Zimbabwe. Lets give these young guns some more time.

And is overlooking the the facts. When your team loaded with superstar batsmen fail to score 350 runs consistently you cant expect bowlers who are in either their first or second tours to do job of lifting them. Compare the stats of over 300 to 350 plus in an inning by aussie team of the same era as fab 4 they have similar career stats against other countries say Sa, nz and eng and compare their collapses against same teams you will find the answer why fab4 underachieved as a unit. IMO in the fab 4 era all failures were pushed on bowling. Even in 1990s bowlers were doing the job but batting simply was so weak it did not matter what bowlers did failing to chase 120 to win test in wi getting 66 and 58 all out in durban. Failing in nz in 2002 to reach 200 you dont win matches unless 300 to 350 is consistently posted period.
