Can Ashwin really make a difference in Lords for the IInd test?!

I understand the cries for a full time spinner to be included in the squad. But Im not sure it will really make a difference. The last time our star spinner a.k.a Harbhajan bowled 56 overs, gave away 218 runs and took a solitary wicket!! While the verdict is still out about whos worse Ashwin or Bhajji, Im not sure either spinner will really have an impact in Lords!! I think its best to stick to Jadeja and replace Binny with a batsman. The 5 batsman strategy looks iffy especially since Dhawan and Kohli are looking a bit unsure at the moment.

Ashwin won't make the slightest difference. It's amazing that none of our spinners can get cheap lower order wickets not even some on sheer luck :facepalm:

historically lords has not helped the spinners. oval and old trafford have. the big question india should be asking is, can ashwin do a better job than sir with the bat and ball?

Ashwin has been horrible abroad. I don't think any difference between him and jadeja in terms of what they will give with the ball. Ashwin would have done zilch on that pitch. But to be honest it was bowlers graveyard, harsh to criticise any bowler based on trent bridge, joke pitch

Ashwin will probably not replace Jadeja in the team for the second test. But if Jadeja continues to perform poorly in the series, it will be easier for Ashwin to replace Jadeja, compared to say somebody like Pankaj Singh replacing Ishant Sharma.

May not make much of a difference but Jaddu cannot be picked purely to contain. Will need to contribute a couple of wickets at some stage during the tests.

probably will, he's a smart bowler but needs to attack. Funny thing is, if he has crowded fields and some cover, he can restrict singles and hold up one end while attacking at the same time

yep.though catch was dropped off him,he bowled poorly in the evening.He might get last chance at Lords.Else Ashwin should come in atleast to bulk up batting.

On non helpful pitches Jadeja is worse than Ashwin.

Doesn't matter if u play jadeja or ashwin,both wont do well on pitches not assisting spin especially lords ,one of them will defo play.the main point should be whether binny should be played or a 4th seamer instead of him.lords will be relatively flat as well but ateast have good bounce especially under overcast conditions. Dhoni Will play the same 11 though no doubt

Batting definately Ashwin can make more of a difference than Jadeja But bowling wise because Jadeja didn't pick any wickets would Ashwin picking up 1 or 2 wickets count as making a significant difference. Or do the management want the spinners to play a more defensive, containing role , where Jadeja would more effective

I'd take Ashwin over Jadeja. They're on par bowling wise at the moment, neither is in great form, though Ashwin could pose a bigger threat, could possibly create the odd chance. Batting-wise Ashwin is much better than Jadeja

Question is who do you consider best spinner ...if it is Ojha or Mishraji or even Vishal Dabholkar for that matter must be playing. You can win ODI or T20 but not a test match with bits & pieces player, how hard that is for our selectors to understand.

England has 6 left handers in their line up. So playing Ashwin ahead of Jadeja is worth a gamble

Either him or jaddu not Both . India cannot afford tow toothless spinners with minimum attacking field.
