Yes Ponting was an average captain but he will definetely be in the top 10 greatest players produced by Australia...Can you say the same for Dhoni with the same confidence? @Sooda I agree...he will make it to the Top 10 list for ODI's but again Raina will make it if we just limit it to T20's as well. I am not saying Dhoni is a bad cricketer but captaincy has added to his Aura to make him look like an ATG across all formats which is not true and he has got a pass because of the team he has played with clearly.
maniac Posted July 24, 2014 Author Posted July 24, 2014 Just from the top of my head here is the list of players obviously ahead of Dhoni(in no order of ranking) SRT,R.D,VVS,Sehwag,Ganguly,Zak,Bhajji,Yuvi,Kumble,Srinath(These are players from Dhoni's generation or just before) so already that is a Top 10 Kapil,Sunny,Vengasrker,Vishwanath,Pataudi,Amarnath,Azhar(if you exclude his off-field controversies),Bedi,M.A.K Ptaudi,B.Chandrasekhar There you go obvious Top 20.

The top 20 was just an argument to show that dhoni is not some kind of an Undroppable legend had he not got the captaincy tag......it was just an example....just bcoz I posted 20 players ahead of msd doesn't automatically qualify him to be 21 on my list. All I am trying to say is he is a good utility player but has a built a legacy based off of others accomplishments in his side. I gave him the greatest tag because obviously he is not a fringe player and given the amount of popularity and hype he has created and based on what he has done defintetely I have formed the opinion of him. As I said I am open to views different from mine :winky:

As Dhoni will not rank among the top 20 cricketers from India, he is deemed as the greatest freeloader in the history. Nevermind Dhoni's contribution in ODIs as top 10 t20 cricketers list also exists. However, Ganguly and Yuvi are surely among the top 20 cricketers from India because of their stellar test performances.
