Pankaj Singh makes his debut today..!

Bowled well, gave away a few freebies but since it was his debut, we can forgive him for that. He got a catch dropped and an LBW close shave not given in his favour. All in all, pretty happy with the way he bowled, hopefully today he gets the rub of the green and picks up a few wickets.

Apparently a plumb LBW against Bell was not given. So, at least two wickets that he deserved were denied. Tough luck. I do hope he gets another chance though. I hope Dhoni's "long rope" is extended to him.

He'll be unlucky as long as catching chances keeps going to Dhoni and his pet players... They'll try to deny him wickets as he's come as a replacement of Ishant Sharma...

I have been a critic of Dhoni's captaincy, but that charge sounds too far fetched.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but he doesn't have the it factor to cut it at the highest level....I mean cmon you can take one look at guy and have an idea if he has the tools to be a top level performer. Firstly Pankaj deserves a shot for his service in domestic cricket,he has earned it and yes BCCI was a little late on giving him his run. You can't keep complaining about missed chances....I mean once in a while even parttimers create chances,so that's an argument I don't agree with....yeah it would have been different had 6-7 chances dropped/decisions turned down I would agree he is unlucky but not a long term option. Time to get someone like Bumrah in. Take a look at Butler today, was lucky to survive but still you take one look at him and you know he is going to be there for a while,he has the tools to make it,Being Lucky and Unlucky is part and parcel of the game. I saw Bhuvan in that T20 game against Pak....didn't have the pace but one look and you knew that there was something there,Same with Yadav-I saw him in an IPL game where he bowled some hostile short stuff, was expensive but you knew there was something there. Pankaj-Thank u for your service but you don't belong

Ishant was raw when he came to the scene but he had Pace, skills was winning games for India and then yes I agree he had a Lull period but one look at him at the start of his career and you knew he was a special player. Persisted with him and see we are reaping the rewards....Yes he may have been given a little longer rope than he deserved totally agree but you can't compare Pankaj to Ishant seriously???

Cannot compare Pankaj and Ishant. Thing with Ishant is he has been really bad since 2011 England tour till NZ tour for about 3 years and everyone asked for his head. But a good Ishant is better than most Indian pacers in test matches and a bad Ishant is worse than club level bowlers. We want a good Ishant because when he is good he can run through batting lineups.

This......people were getting carried away that he was bowling at or touching 140 ....happens to every bowler...test debut, you tend to give it all,but can he sustain that like say a Aaron or yadav would? I am sure any indian tundler would give it all and try to punch above his weight when given an opportunity. Take b.k for example,in his debut game or his 1st overseas test, wasn't overawed or overdoing it.....just using his skills sticking to the basics and reaping rewards, that's what makes him different from your average tundler. Yeah tbf not the best of pitches, but still you can see a player and know if he can cut it at this level or not.

Saying Ishant had a lull period is seriously under-estimating how **** he was for a long period of time.

I think Pankaj should be retained, replacing Shami for next test. He has show enough to suggest he should be persisted with and Shami has been a bit off boil. He was not good yesterday but bowled in a few one over bursts which Im sure can not be good for him to get some rhythm.

Poor dude got picked at a wrong age. 29 is bit too much for a fast bowler to make an impression. 24-27 are the golden period for a fast bowler. Umesh is at his right age to be picked.

Whats so wrong or missing in Pankaj that people are writing him off so soon?Has height, gets swing and bounce, bowls around 135K. So why write him off so early?I feel he'll be very valuable in Australia.

Problem was even with that height, he barely got much bounce. Look at Chris Woakes who bowled one over yesterday and ball was carrying at shoulder height to WK and even Anderson got a lot of bounce.

Pankaj got second new ball and came in 7th or 8th over with first new ball. While Woakes bowled in 14th over.

Maybe he didnt want to bowl bouncer.I saw that he was hitting the bat higher than normal with his good length deliveries too. I'm pretty sure if he's told to bowl bouncers like Ishant was,he can do it. even Ishant was called poor with bouncers not too long ago
