Gunner Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Australia are the clear favorites - home conditions, endless supply of quality fast bowlers, their batting line-up is full of powerful hitters and an aggressive and proactive captain in Clarke. South Africa also have an excellent team for Aussie conditions, and a good captain in Amla, but their biggest obstacle will the psychological scars from previous World Cups. Mainly they have to stop being Chokers. India have a batting line-up that's likely to prosper on the flat ODI tracks with true bounce. The inexperienced yet capable bowling is a worry.

adi B Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 We need to work on some aspects : Some of our batsmen need to learn to play the pull and hook shots well and keep them down on the ground. Need to go with 3 seamers + 1 seamer AR + 1 spinner. Seamers have to work on bowling short balls, yorkers and bowling at the death. Pace is an important factor. We need spinners who can bowl well on flat surfaces. Captain should attack and look for wickets in the middle overs, instead of bringing in spinners and let the game drift like he did in NZ, SA. In SC, our spinners will do some damage by keeping runs down and taking wickets. In those conditions, they won't be as effective and it will be tougher for our batsmen to make up for it as there will be a bit more for seamers. These are the lessons I learned from SA, NZ ODIs. Hope Indian team also learned from them too. Agree and these are the departments where we look weak.India can't play both ash,jadeja in Australian pitches,they'll be useless.India have to play 4 pacers (like we did in cb series 2008 ) and hopefully dhoni doesn't let the game drift away in the middle overs which he has mastered. In batting only dhoni and kohli are the only reliable bats. We need a solid #4 with dhoni at #5

kubrickian Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Our chances depend a lot on how the seamers bowl because this is where we are most inexperienced and Aus/NZ pitches help seam lot more than spin. Lot depends on how Shami, Umesh, Kulkarni, Mohit Sharma, Binny or other potential replacements like Aaron, Rishi, Ishwar or Bumrah bowl. I think Bhuvi will find a place surely and he could be our seamer all rounder and we could play 3 other seamers. But the seamers need to bowl well with the new ball, bowl with control, try to take wickets, bowl with pace and bowl some bouncers and bowl well at the death. How Dhoni handles them over the course of next 6 months and how much they learn and adapt in ODI series in England and Aus will decide how we perform in World Cup. The format is just like last World Cup, once we reach quarter finals anybody can win on the day. So chances are quite open for any team I guess.

He loves 'containing' runs in the middle overs with his part timers and spinners and then blame the faster bowlers for leaking runs in the death overs.
