Ashwins primary role is mainly as a bowler to pick wickets. If he can pick 3 wickets in a test match outside Asia, he can keep his spot. His batting is always a bonus. I think once Ashwin starts bowling well and keeps his spot in team outside Asia, you would see him become Shastri 2 slowly .
