Are the younger Indian cricketers disinterested about test cricket ?

I don't think its a lack of interest or effort. They were just not good enough in this series other than Vijay, Dhoni, Bhuvi, Rahane who were decent.

These guys are champions. Even if they are disinterested they will score lot more runs than any Sachins or Dravids. They are too talented to not surpass these overrated so called greats. Since team is not likely to win, they are not scoring here to just inflate their numbers, they will score in winning cause. They will make India win at least one test series in each country and change the history of Indian cricket in next 4-5 years. Jai Hind.

Have we ever heard Dhoni saying in IPL that it is about the process' date=' not the result ?[/quote'] That's because he takes the Indian captaincy for granted and he knows that no matter what the result is he would be retained as the captain because of his connections which btw has happened once. He was sacked by amarnath's team but was saved by srini. On the other hand in IPL if he does not perform he would be booted out and that will also jeopardize his Indian captaincy. So he can't make such stupid remarks there.

I don't buy the argument Pujara, Kohli, Rahane are not trying. More than we think they definitely want to make a mark. Anderson?Broad combination is probably the best bowling combo from England since Willis, Botham. Gough/Caddick were not this good. They get exposed to an attack like this on their first tour to England, there was expected to be some struggles. But i cannot digest the fact that we gave 19 wickets to freaking Moeen bhai.

No that they are not interested but they are not enough for test cricket. In overseas conditions to become a successful test batsman you need solid technique with adequate temperament which our young cricketers lack. The worst part is there is no one in the team to guide them. We have chucked all seniors at one shot and filled the team with youngsters. A Pujara would have improved immensely had he played with Dravid for couple of years. Sachin could have guided Kohli in tough times. But at present all young cricketers are in a shell shock with only Dhoni scoring runs. Again experience speaks.

OUr youngsters batted okay in the last 2 series. It is not merely technique. Confidence loss. Bhuvaneswar scores 3 fifties. Kohli has none. Won't make Bhuvan better than Kohli. Matter of confidence. ALso opening batting is crucial in England tests. IF you expose top order frequently to new ball you will see more and more collapses

There is serious lack of quality between the two sides and its is quiet evident. When English were bowling the pitch was looking like a graveyard. Forget about Broad and Andesron, the back up bowlers like Jordan and Woakes were looking unplayable. Then when we come to bowl all seam swing suddenly stops. It seems like we are bowling on a different track all together. Confidence loss? Maybe. Difference is class - Definitely.

One more thing, people keep on talking about SA series. How many tests we played there? 2 tests. Imagine this being a 2 test series as well? India would have won this series. Longer the series is you will get expose more.

We knew that before the series. To our credit we battled hard and pushed them to brink in the first 2 tests. Where we lost the plot was going for a draw in the third test. Our bad fielding cost us. Plus brain fart batting against Moeen ali was also a reason. Easiest pitch to bat in the entire series was in the third test. We just gave the wickets away despite having 7 batsmen including Dhoni. Our bowlers burnt out.

They are. And five match test series away from home are just going to reduce their motivation further. It's like asking Usain bolt to do a 40 km marathon in the tundra and berating him for not making it. Our youngsters are getting skilled in shorter formats like Usain bolt. That's where the money lies these days and you can't blame them if they take up that. Let's not berate our youngsters simply because they can't perform I an outdated format of the game.

They are interested but unfortunately lack the basics and technique..
The same set of batters did excellently in SAF. Many did well in NZ too. It can't be about technique and basics only. If that were the case then Dhoni ( who himself says that his test technique is not good ), BK, Ashwin and even Binny and Jaddu to some extent, would not have succeeded. It is more about application and will to fight it out. This young bunch is not mentally ready for a long test series. At best they can sustain the mental intensity for 2 tests or so.

When other players can follow Dhoni's logic of valuing IPL more than Intl. cricket, why don't they follow his way of playing resilient innings? May be after a while a few here would blame Dhoni for their erectile dysfunctionality too.

Judging by the 'At least we have loads of ICC championships and you have none' attitude of some Indian fans, young or not, I would say yes. Unfortunately it seems very few Indians give a flying ferret about Test cricket

Posted

young energetic indians don't give a flying ferret about ambassador car, safari suits, gandhi family, nehruvian socialism and pretty much anything that isn't economically viable or suitable for the times they are in. And test cricket falls into that category. The sooner test cricket goes, the better. Relic, time wasting and too little rewarding for efforts spent.

That's fair enough. Each to their own. Bet you weren't saying that after Lord's though
