Crookbond Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 I think that is a misguided perspective. A historical person of as great importance as Hitler (and yes, he was important- he was *THE* most influential politician of 20th century) cannot simply be seen for one side of the story. That he was a mass-murdering butcher should never ever be forgotten, but neither should his other attributes be forgotten- excellent public speaker, decorated war vet, total idiot at strategy, amazing policies to pick Germany up from the great depression, etc. To do otherwise, is to dehumanise hitler and that is dangerous. In my books, when you kill people systematically - I don't want to see any positive in you. I can get the same positives from 100 average joe's around me. I don't think that is unique to Hitler. No amount of good qualities can overshadow what he did (in some sense people - particularly trolls - want to do that here).

It doesnt matter if you disagree with 99.9999% of what someone does, when that someone is as influential as Hitler, its worth the lesson to not omit any of the Hitler story. Yes, it may create a few fanboys out of simplistic idiots but it keeps it far more sobering and sane to perceive him with his epic faults and what he got completely right for those with the tiniest amount of brain. thats just my perspective, it just does very little to potray him as a marvel comic supervillain. Too simplistic and too alienating IMO.

OMG OMG OMG .. he's so cute, so great we need more people like him. Hitler is my hero ... yay" kind of thinking. In my personal opinion, document every bit of everyone about history but once someone kills anyone systematically I see no reason to eulogize about that person for even 1 second of my life. There's a line between documentation (which I'm fine) versus singing praises (which I don't want to cross). But well, that's just me.

I don't think there are many people in India who sing praises of Hitler. Yes, there are some people who admire some of his qualities (seeing this thread, we have some of them here also) but even among those people, most do realize the extent of his crimes. In India I think the problem is that a very large number of people who have heard the name "Hitler" simply do not know/do not realize the enormous scale of the horrors he unleashed. On your point, while I agree with Muloghonto that Hitler should not be dehumanized, I also agree with you in that I cannot (or rather I do not want to) see any good qualities in someone like Hitler.

I'm glad there are people like you. In this thread, we have people singing tunes by throwing random terms like "Davalopment! Davalopment ... GDP, Abi Ki Baar Nazi Sarkaar". It is easy to show increase in statistics by eliminating the "weak". So, it is OK to document his qualities (oratory skills etc.) but we better not show statistics like x% GDP, y% falaana-dikhaana type statistics. For all we know, most would be fudged or even if not where attained via dubious means.

Sachin=GOD Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 HeadlinesToday@HeadlinesToday Gandhiji & Hitler had the same energy level but their teachers turned them into what they became: Rahul Gandhi to Amethi college students. The only thing BJP needs to do in order to ensure another term in 2019 is to make sure this guy is still the leader of the Congress.

Number Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 He is telling us that Hitler's teachers taught him to kill Nazis/Communists.
Number Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Btw, what was Hitler's reason to kill Jews/Commies ? Was he fearing another revolt like the one in WW1 due to which Germany lost the war ? Or it was purely personal vendetta from what he saw while growing up ?
Detonator Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Btw, what was Hitler's reason to kill Jews/Commies ? Was he fearing another revolt like the one in WW1 due to which Germany lost the war ? Or it was purely personal vendetta from what he saw while growing up ? Well, if you are into Star Trek, the character Khan is inspired by him. He saw Jews as a threat to the "aryan race". As for commies, the russian ideology is a polar opposite to nazi.

Lebensraum policy which considered some races inferior to them so that Germany could expand and "develop". Re: Post #139
