Cricket was played in the T20 format during the games, and while it doesn't have any official recognition from the apex body, International Cricket Council (ICC), winning a medal in Asia's biggest sporting event is always considered a proud moment. BCCI's decision not to send teams has now received flak from the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), which has slammed India's richest sporting body for treating the sport as just another business venture. "They have not sent the team for the second time to the Games. While I respect their decision, I am sorry to say and I believe they are not interested in promotion of the game but only in making it a business, in making money out of it," Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, the OCA president, said at a media conference. "The fact remains that they are looking at the financial situation and how to control the game. They are holding it too close to their chest like a baby but they need to realise that this baby has to grow," he added. Cricket made its Asian Games debut during the Ghoungzhou games in 2010, but the BCCI had refused to send either the men's team or the women's team for the competition. Cricket was included in this year's calendar thanks to the personal request of the OCA president but the BCCI continued to play truant. "Cricket is a very famous sport in that region and in the Commonwealth countries. It's a top sport in India. All the athletes of various sports like Wu Shu, Kabaddi, Sepak Takraw which are not in the Olympic Games are participating in these Games. I am sad that the top athletes of cricket were not allowed to take part," said Sheikh Al-Sabah. Lambasting BCCI further, he went on to say that cricket's dream of becoming an Olympic sport can never be realised if such attitude continues. "We believe in providing good environment for all the games," he said. Sri Lanka won the gold medal in this year's games for men while Pakistan landed with the highest honours in the women's section. :angelic:

There are teams getting bowled out for 20 runs and there won't be any decent pitches to play on, just a mat or artificial turf. I would rather not send any team than winning a medal in these farcical games.

Indian women cricketers hardly get to play any match these days, a gold in the Asian Games would have brought cash incentives and also given them the recognition they so much deserve. BCCI's apathy towards women's cricket is the sole reason why we have fallen from the big 4 club(along with Aus, Eng,NZ) to let WI, Lanka, RSA surpass/equal us in the last few years. How can a private club like BCCI control Indian cricket is beyond me.

From when it BCCI started to worry about "affordability"?:hmmm: and even if cricket does not have relevence ,I am sure a gold does have.

But yeah India could have done with 2 more gold.
