Kadesh Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 So I am interested in who is a real fan of cricket and who is a nationalist fan. I freely admit my sympathies lie with England, but I try to watch as much cricket as I can - I watched quite a lot of the West Indies-India series, will watch more of the Aus-Pak series as the time difference is a bit easier, before the India Sl odis, Eng SL odis, Aus India thrashing and then the world cup. How many people here watch and enjoy regular non-India matches, I'm quite interested in this.
Cricketics Posted October 19, 2014 Posted October 19, 2014 I still do watch a lot of games regardless of the teams playing. Looking forward to NZ vs South Africa coming up. It is just the love for the game. But my personal favorite is the Aussie home season. Games start around 7 pm for me and channel 9 coverage is world class.The whole thing makes it great fun to follow the game.Better than sunday night NFl football(which i love to watch)or anything for me.

Apart from games involving India, I'm particularly interested in proper test series (3+ matches) among the better test playing nations like Aus-SA, SA-Eng, and Aus-Eng. I also like watching the series where a good test team plays a not-so-good team in alien conditions. Like I'd be interested to see Aus vs SL in SL but not in Aus. Similarly SA vs Pak in Sharjah but not in SA.
philcric Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 Same priorities apply to ODIs as well, with slightly lesser interest, purely because of lack of context to those games. Oh I also watch IPL and Champions League, but no interest in other T20 leagues like Big Bash etc.
kubrickian Posted October 20, 2014 Posted October 20, 2014 I enjoy watching test cricket in England, Australia, SA, NZ because conditions are favorable to seamers and I find test cricket more interesting to watch when there is contest between batsmen and seamers. But I don't usually watch the whole game, only the bits when it gets interesting. I don't watch a lot of ODIs or T20s other than when India is playing. I watch IPL but its just fun and watch it casually. I suppose that's why I enjoy it because there is absolutely no tension and can relax. Besides, I also like trolling on IPL forum here. I also like watching Pakistan chase. :P

Once when I was a still a mid-teen my entire family was going to go to a weekend vacation. But i stayed back to watch the india match the next day. Sachin got out in the first two overs and the cycle parking stand fell in a heap immediately. I cried due to boredom staying alone all by myself for 2 days for cricket. This is just one incident out of about 100+ incidents. After Sachin retired, I am a free bird. my trainer shared with me a very interesting observation, I dont reschedule my gym session for cricket anymore. After the Sachin farewell series, i never called him to tell that India is batting and we should cancel today's session. 8 hours of your attention per day is not a joke. cricket is a very long game and is a criminal waste of time.
