Lara's 400 vs Rohit's 264

Lara's 400 , 375 both came on the flattest wicket in WI. pLace whee Gayle made 317 in addition to 3 more making centuries in the same innings. A ground where Viv scored fastest 100. But Lara' is like train. He just goes on and on an area whee Tendulkar fell behind. He could not score gigantic scores.

There was no point of scoring 700 odd in the first innings.. they could have won that game too...

He needed to make sure wi didn't bat 2nd time. Thats how bad wi were in that series

Lara's 400 was NOT selfish.He scored at a SR of 69 which is great for Test unless you are Sehwag and after he enforced the follow on,WI still had 140 odd overs to get England.thats more than sufficient.That they couldnt do it shouldnt count against him

Thats why Sehwag's 293 is such a special knock and far better than any 400 which Lara made.He made mockery of nearly 400 runs which SL made by erasing that deficit in 70 odd overs and helping India win the match with plenty of time to spare.

Many teams bat on 3rd day in a bid to bat once.For example India in SCG Test in 2004 His bowlers had more than enough time to get England out.If he declared at lesser score then England could have avoided the follow on and then too it'll be a draw. No one's saying it was the greatest knock.Sehwag's 293 was indeed better but he bats at his own pace.No one could do what he did

Rohit's knock was at a S/R of 150+ which means there was a timelimit of what he could do where as Lara took almost 2.5 days to get to his milestone...now I know different formats but you can deny the incredible hitting and stamina it takes to get to Rohit's milesone...definitely a more difficult feat than what Lara has done. Sehwag could have easily chased 400 had he not put teams interests before his own but that's a different debate. This is an incredible feat that may not happen again and it is really embarassing to see we are so quick to deride it. Teams have played against weaker opposition on similar pitches but they have come close to 200 but 264 is some feat

SImple fact-Lara was chasing a record and had the milestone in mind...Rohit wasn't-It just happened due to an incredible innings-SImple. That should put things into perspective.

Its an incredible feat because you are playing a high risk game at most time to score that many runs so quickly. No matter what pitch what attack there is.
