Ajinkya's main shortcoming?

Rahane lacks consistency, not lack of technique....He will play a blinder on a minefield or a grassy pitch but will not make it count on a Patta. One gets the feeling that he has been scoring 50's and 100's every other innings but he barely averages 40...Yes he got a howler last game but that doesn't take away that he lacks consistency. Has no real chinks in his armor except temparament
Played 11 out of 12 tests overseas against good oppositions, still averaging 40 in his first year of test cricket, damn good I say. Will take all of our top 6 batsmen averaging 40-45 overseas any day. In fact, averaging 47 away from home excluding that debut test.

That thread was never meant to be serious. Rahane has worked on his front foot game. He used to have trouble in domestic cricket against bowlers with decent pace coming on to front foot.

Rahane's temperament is a chink in his armour? Jeez. Let's not forget how long he waited for debut because of Sachin's overstay. He was also dropped from ODI for no apparent reason and Vijay was picked instead in Champions Trophy despite the fact Rahane did well in his debut ODI series in England. To go through such phases and perform well in overseas tests straightaway(he has played just his debut test in India) and to not get bogged down by the fact that his more accomplished teammates are struggling, requires temperament.

Dhoni was playing 2 test failures Raina and Yuvraj ahead of him in NZ series. Was that also because of Sachin ?

I think you are talking about when NZ came to India couple of years back for a 2-test series?

rahane was thrown in the deep end in SA series with no serious backing like rohit or kohli or others got. Kohli delivered, rohit did not. Rahane has delivered EVERYWHERE! Rahane: 50s in SA (almost a hundred), in Eng and now AUS (1st test and now 2nd) 100s in NZ, Eng and maybe AUS. If he gets it tomorrow, he will further establish his name in the higher echelon!

My fav player after Mooli Bhai, umpiring howlers have gotten the better of him in his short stint at intl test cricket else he would be averaging 50+. Pray that he gets a big one tmrw. :pray:Else selectors will try to drop him bcoz he isn't the blue eyed boy unlike Rohit Sharma.

He may get sorted out soon. He struggles against shot pitch technique. Also, somehow survives ,manage to score 25-30, after that, he looks settled, which is good. But I will still say that he has a limited game, and don't possess to take on the attacks, has the ability to manage the bowlers.

His technique against shot pitch balls isn't as bad as Viru, Ganguly and Steve Waugh and they did pretty well in their test careers. He has taken on opposition attacks more than once in his brief stay. The way he took the attack o the opposition in Durban, NZ, Lords are the hallmarks of a gifted batrsman.

his struggles with the short ball are on/off. he has played the pull shot brilliantly

Yesterday.. i saw something unusuall.. He looked very edgy in first 10-20 balls he faced. Survived two close calls. He, at times, over attacks.. But the guy is a figher.. doesnt get rattled easily.

A lot of batsmen are. Which is why it is more difficult to dismiss well set batsmen.
