Marut Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Rahul Dravid in general is known to be a less aggressive ODI player by Indian standards, while Inzamam-ul-Haq is generally considered an aggressive ODI batsman from Pakistan. I agree that Inzamam is a bigger six/boundary hitter and could some times make short work of steep run chases compared to Dravid, but who is the better ODI player overall? Please answer without bias. They have nearly the same number of hundreds and fifties, so stats wise they are very similar. But Dravid has done a lot better outside home. Dravid at home averages 43 @ 79 Inzy at home averages 57 @ 81 ======================= Dravid away averages 41 @ 69 Inzy away averages 37@ 71 =============================== Dravid outside home against top teams: in Australia : averages 33 @ 67 S/R in England : 46 @ 81 in SA: 44 @ 65 in NZ: 39 @ 63 in WI: 34 @ 68 Inzamam outside home against top teams: in Australia : 26 @ 70 in England : 34 @ 73 in SA: 28 @ 70 in NZ: 24 @ 65 in WI: 47 @ 65 Inzamam does not even compare to Dravid against non minnow teams away from Asia, his only good stats are against the WI side, which is one of the weakest teams outside Asia since 2000. Inzamam's career ODI stats compare against Dravid only because of heavy home record, otherwise he does not even hold a candle to Dravid. There are other factors like performance in WC etc, and I am almost sure Dravid is ahead here also. I thinks Dravid takes this rather easily.
Vijy Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Would give to Dravid for his non-batting skills, i.e. better running between wickets, better fielding (close-in) and his ability to keep. Batting-wise, both were very good batsmen with differing styles.

Inzi's exploits in the 92 World Cup were simply career defining. Much like Tendulkar's Sharjah stunners. And Dravid played much of his ODI career with plenty of support from the other end- sehwag, tendulkar. Ganguly, yuvraj etc. Inzi basically had no support at the other end other than Saeed Anwar. Again, overall, when one does not specific a format, I go with Dravid. In tests I liked dravid more tha. Tendulkar, Lara, gavaskar, ponting or any other player, But in ODIs, I take Inzi.

Fortunately, dravid had guys like sachin, yuvi and sehwag to play the aggressive game while he was a collector and he played in whatever position the team demanded. Inzi, the binary man, was a coward and a ftb who cowered down in lower middle order even when his team needed him to bat higher. So Dravid was easily the better ODI batsman. The 3 points he lacks in SR completely makes up for his better performance outside home and against good teams. In India and most other teams, batsmen start at lower middle order and climb up the table with performance and experience. In pakistan, batsmen try to bat lower and lower with seniority irrespective of teams demand.

Khalpat Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 Succesful batting in cricket is determined by lots of factors, 1. some of them are god gifted like hand eye coordination, lofted shots abilities , physique etc. 2. some are which you learn during initial days like Technique, shot selection etc. 3. some are which you learn as time progresses like improving your shot selection, improvisation, quick running between the wicket, playing for your team etc. On point 1, Inzimam is slightly ahead of Dravid as he was more talented on point 2 both are equal but on point 3 which requires great amount of self motivation, hard work, team man Dravid is far ahead.

Inzi has just 1 innings of note in WC that too in 1992, alebit a crazy one, and some folks hail him as the biggest match winner and all sorts of crazy stuffs. Darvid has done so much more in WCs and crucial matches but is always held inferior.

But he could not go solo like some of his contemporaries in the ODIs A high class Test batsman like Dravid not surprisingly have higher averages abroad against tougher oppositions. But how many actually he won like say Dhoni who has much inferior batting technique overseas. He can hold his end for sure to guide us through. He was rarely considered a threat to opposition as much as Inzi. Statistics won't reveal much on that point.
