I feel this is simply because World Cup is near and both of them will play on it so maybe he wants continuity kohli is not one day captain. He needn't select test teams based on future one day tournaments. Just worry about tests.

Media can make good guesses about who's being dropped based on who's getting long net sessions and who isn't.
