India lacking in Test skills

Glad' date=' Aus with all their super "Test" skills swept the series in UAE and India recently.[/quote'] You can make all kind of justification but fact of matter is Indian Test team is pretty pathetic to say the least overseas and even in Home condition they exactly not world beater as we saw with English team having two genuine spinners . The reasons articulated by Jarrod Kimber may not be all encompassing but we all know besides batting (2-3 batsmen) the rest including bowling, keeping and fielding levels are not only insipid but lacking in any kind of skills to perform at highest level. What is troubling is since over first bad overseas series ( 4-0 in Eng) in mid 2011, almost 3 1/2 yrs ago nothing absolutely nothing is done to build a sound Test side except piling series after series in the calender and hoping to magically come up with world class team out of thin air !

Which Series are you watching now ? And why exclude tail? Does India not know that the tail bats ? Overall we have been downright f-ing hopeless, both batting and bowling. 1) Batting had to show up on 1 day to win the game. They failed. 2) Batting had to show up on 1 Day to Draw the game they failed. 3) Batting had to show on 1 day to Draw the Game, they were well on their way to failure.
The problem is India have only had 3 batsmen show up this series, the less said about the middle-lower order the better, and we shouldn't even talk about the tail, who can't bat, can't bowl, have no brains and can't field.

@singhprakash remind me how many of the players that took to the field in 2011 v England after the WC are still part of the side?

By now a bowling attack should have been built. Ishant made his debut in 2007. Boult made his debut in 2011. Who do you think will be picked given a choice between them. or even Philander for that matter. This is the problem. We backed a rubbish bowler so long hoping he would come good and lead the attack one day. He is still at best a support bowler. Nothing more.

Exactly ......all we just did was replace players after players with no emphasis on improving the quality of players we replacing. By that I mean the breading bowlers who are able to bowl probing spells in longer format of cricket or batsmen who can thrive on conducive wickets or fielders who perform as well oiled machine in the field. You can replace the whole current team but it really doesn't matter as we still have garbage in and garbage out in form of result.

Yeah but the question is why? BCCI is one of the richest, but yet the India team cant find 5 good bowlers? Are they all hiding in the IPL? Or is playing 5 days of cricket too much for these legends?

Dude 5 of the 6 batsmen of this team are playing test in Australia for first time, still they have scored 400 plus runs in every test, which is certainly an improvement since the last time where we scored 400 just once. We lost England series at home because oldies like GG, Viru apart from one innings, SRT couldnt score enough runs in top order. Opening is the best place to bat in India and GG and Viru struggled in that.

Bowling and fielding are surely bigger problems now... Cannot pick wickets in seaming / swinging conditions... Don't want to work hard to bowl consistent lines / lengths... Cannot hold on to straight forward catches... Batting has a few problems but will sort itself out... Vijay / Rahane / Kohli / Pujara are stable Test match class... Rohit will hopefully come good with time in Tests... If Rahul does well consistently, they can consider making him a full time keeper, and have 5 bowlers in the line-up...

Not sure if you seen last 2 days of SCG match .....did you at any moment feel this side is going to take 20 wkts ?? A Test team comprises of batsman, bowler & keeper who expected to play competitive cricket 5 days not just bat out of their skin and save 5 day test match or allow an side to score 500 runs in all their first innings of a series.
