India lacking in Test skills

Bowling is a much bigger problem. Kohli, Vijay, Rahane and Pujara are definitely test caliber batsmen even if they're not always in form. 4 batsmen of that quality are a blessing for any test side. Other than the period of Sehwag, Gambhir, Dravid, ST, Gang, Lax, we've always had trouble finding more than 4 class batters in an XI. The bowling-- well, the less said the better. I hate T20s. But not sure T20s can be linked to test woes.

Honestly I blame 100% on the batting. On these pitches loosing 20 wickets is a sin. Only 3 of our batsman showed up and in England only 2. You can't win test matches like that.

like before T20 india had a glorious away record..... NOT The solution lay very much in the ranji. T20 cricket is like the easiest target for lazy people. and for the record, india dont play that much T20 cricket internationally. If you take domestic t20 + IPL matches +champions league +internationals , players from south africa and australia play more t20 cricket than India through the year. The south africans especially do play their main domestic tournament do play in the IPL and play a lot more international t20 matches..... the likes of Morne Morkel, Steyn etc play a lot more T20 per year than Bhuvi Shami.

We haven,t found proper test bowlers like kumble, zahedan khan both can constantly plug away without giving freebies in between. Left arm swing bowlers played some role in some of our overseas performances. Zaheee, irfan, RP, Nehra in smal patces. India lacks a leader in the bowling department . Bhuvan is the closes to become one. But it will take long time. Ashwin lacks skills with variety of cricket balls to be a leader. He does okay with SG balls. With kookaburra it is a disaster. Wanted world class leader for this attack., county stint will provide you that.

Lack of top class spin bowler can be attributed to IPL. Our spin bowlers are no good when it comes to test cricket overseas. We are sorely missing Kumble.

Other than the period of Sehwag' date= Gambhir, Dravid, ST, Gang, Lax.
There was a period of time (brief it maybe) when most of them were in-form, and it was a DREAM lineup when most were in-form. Three super-legends, Dravid, Tendulkar and Laxman One moderate-legend and a maverick one - Sehwag Two chotta-legends (briefer period) - Gambhir and Ganguly And among those, Tendulkar, Sehwag and Ganguly can bowl good part-time spin plus military medium. And Dravid can do part-time keeping if injury to main. And Laxman and Dravid were good at slips, and Sehwag slips/cover/gully. Gambhir at forward short leg. These days our batsmen cant bowl part-time, can't catch in slips/gully, and only a few can even bat.

Good article' date=' but it lacks Kimber's usual rhythm and punch. Seems to be a bit unclear in saying what he's trying to say.[/quote'] He is implying that Indian Test Cricket team is well below international standard to play Test cricket of any sorts with Teams like Aus, SA, Eng and even NZ....I bet they'll even struggle at home against top teams. The thing is every team goes through a cycle of rebuilding after their top players leave but this time around the existing players new or old don't have any kind of skills/temperament to last 5 days of competitive cricket...you can blame IPL but that in my opinion is just one of the many things that is eroding the Test cricket in India.

The interest in cricket per se also seems to be going down.

Our batsmen has comfortably outpertformed Australia batsmen comfortably apart from Smith. The problem has been getting the tail. How exactly is it IPL fault
Which Series are you watching now ? And why exclude tail? Does India not know that the tail bats ? Overall we have been downright f-ing hopeless, both batting and bowling. 1) Batting had to show up on 1 day to win the game. They failed. 2) Batting had to show up on 1 Day to Draw the game they failed. 3) Batting had to show on 1 day to Draw the Game, they were well on their way to failure.

I am talking about his performance after county stint. He worked on batsmen better than anyone i have seen for India in a long time. He had precise plans and executed with perfection. Even the surprise bouncers worked for him. These guys pale in comparison with Zaheer's attitude and thinking when he was at his best. The way he set Smith up time and again was a treat to watch. None of our current bowlers have the ability to set up batsmen.

This needs serious re-thinking on how BCCI structures our tours, how BCCI schedules our tours, how BCCI schedule our matches within the tours. Be done with the 4 and and 5 match Test Series, both at home and away. It cannot be any more than 3 match. For every 2 Series Abroad, Have 2 Series at Home. India and probably most teams when they travel, do not have in them to sustain more than 3 matches. Better planning is what the doctor orders !

It is a combination of lack of discipline and bowling acumen........can any of our bowlers bowl 6 continuous deliveries landing in and around the same area? I don't think so........ The only thing that the IPL does is inflate egos.......

Our bowling has always been a weak point. But there used to be at-least one good bowler in the attack to make up for the rest. Zak did that, before him there was Kumble. Now we have the hopeless Ishant as the leader of the attack.
