Lord Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Our fast bowlers remind me of a "blonde/ blond joke". A blonde/ blond came to a hair salon for a long time. She/he always used the same stylist. The lady/man always used ear phones. Every time , before a hair styling session, she/he clearly instructed the stylist not to touch the ear phones in any way. The stylist never did. This went on for many many sessions. Finally, the stylist was overcome by curiosity ...and removed the earphone. The lady/man started gasping for breath immediately and died after a while. The hair stylist, panic striken but even more curious, put the earphone , to her ear. She heard ," Breathe in, breathe out, breathe in, breathe out.......". Our fast bowlers are very similar..... Unless they are instructed about the basics every ball they will bowl crap. Haha exactly

At least the blonde could breathe when instructed to do so. I don't think our bowlers could bowl 6 good line and length balls in an over even when instructed to do so.
mishra Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Solution is investment at grass root level. BCCI should ensure that atleast half the wickets even at district level to be frndly to fast bowling. Unfortunately not even half the Ranaji games are played on fast/bouncy tracks

Reverse swing' date=' doosra etc. a bowling coach can't really teach basic skills like bowling line and length. Even school level coaches teach that. And if a bowler climbs the ladder without being able to bowl line and length, he's not going to learn it at the highest level. Brains can't be taught, either.[/quote'] David Saker - Victorian Australian and Troy Cooley- another aussie made so much difference to England bowlers ..so much so that England graduated to have spinner coach Mushtaq also ..therefore, I would not agree to this argument of bowling coach not needed

The moment a couple of deliveries don't produce wickets, they try something different. If they really tried to bowl the same delivery all the time...wouldn't the results be somewhat better ?

Even if they try something different, the frustrating thing is that they can't put the ball where they intend to put it. For six consecutive balls, put a soccer ball on different places on the pitch, and ask the bowlers to hit the soccer ball. I don't think they would be successful more than 1-2 times. And then there are people like Murali ImOlvw23xL8

And then there are people like Murali ImOlvw23xL8 For bowlers with action issues which result in them not being able to do what they want,.... it would have been easier if they tried less variations. Then the execution part would have improved.

diga Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Surely the bowlers know bowling a consistent line and lengh is a must, if they need someone to tell them that they shouldn't be playing international cricket. I think India became very impatient in Australia, Aussie bowlers know (like any bowler with an IQ above 60) patience is the key to test match bowling, India IMO gave up very early on their set plans and tried for wkts every ball instead of building pressure from both ends, everyone knows Australia like to score rapidly and stopping the scoring is the key to Australian wkts IMO. you also need a captain who is patient enough with the bowlers probing away...not tinkering with the field often. no wonder our best test results were under one of the patient batsman in the world
