vvvslaxman Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 With only 4 fielders outside the ring, this is an area every team will target. It is not like our main bowlers are any good. But teams will consciously wait for 5th bowler to have a go now. Yuvraj did a fabulous job in 2011 world cup. The two crucial wickets against Pakistan turned the game around. Raina is not in the class of Yuvraj. We had Yuvraj, Sehwag, Sachin , Ganguly to chip in in the previous world cups. In this world cup we have no real solid option .

What about the other 4 so-called "main bowlers" - even they will be belted when they do the usual short-and-wide, and the other option "onto the batsman's pads" type erratic bowling! Our erratic bowling attack is gonna make new One Day heroes out of opposition batsmen :((
Austin 3:!6 Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 This world cup we have to go with 5 bowlers and hope 6 batsman contribute well enough. Dearth of part timers is the reason we cannot risk an extra batsman. I would play Akhsar Patel as my 5th bowler with Ishant, Bhuvi, Shami and Ashwin being other four.

Infact it is not even risky considering the options we have. We play 5 bowlers these days. Looks like you haven't seen ODI matches in years. 3 seamers, two spinners in Ashwin and Jaddu or Axar.

We have rarely if at all played 7 batsmen ever since the new fielding restrictions came into effect. We will play Jadeja at 7 in the world cup for sure. Until he is fit expect Axar or Binny to fill the 5th bowler .

We haven't played 7 pure batsmen in recent years. Jaddu is there at 7 and even Axar is a very good hitter lower down the order and has a very good head on his shoulders as he had first started as a batsman.

Our erratic bowling attack is gonna make new One Day heroes out of opposition batsmen :(( YET in the history on ODI cricket all 4 double hundreds have been scored by Indians with one each against SA and Aus. Yes ppl will crib about Indian conditions and small grounds, well the conditions were the same for opposition also with "our" bowling line up which is supposed to be the worst in world it should have been cake walk for the opposition. The real issue is rules are so much in batsmans favor that i dont see bowlers from any country making much of impact specially if the pitches we saw in test series are an indicator to go by. Our bowling lineup is on par with any sub continent team. WI and Eng also dont have anything special. Aus bowlers on home pitches looked toothless in the recently concluded test series

Bhuvi had one of the best Eco. as well. Clearly our bowling attack is very under rated in ODI.Probably becoz of the flat odi pitches in India and confusing with test performance
Cricketics Posted January 17, 2015 Posted January 17, 2015 I think Raina will be doing plenty of bowling, knowing Dhoni is incharge. Actually, Raina has been pretty decent for us so I will not really mind him bowling in between. We will need to make sure we use Bhuvneshwar Kumar's 10 over spell pretty well. For me, Shami and Bhuvi are my opening bowlers and also the death bowlers.

Only Shami did decently in NZ though was very expensive.
