Switchblade Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 http://indianexpress.com/article/sports/cricket/india-just-need-3-good-days-to-win-world-cup-rahul-dravid/ Former India captain Rahul Dravid feels that it will require “three good days†to win the coveted World Cup cricket tournament for Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his men. “The format is such that all top teams will play in the quarterfinals. From there on, You need three good days to win the World Cup. We have Virat Kohli and Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who can singlehandedly win a match. I am not saying it would be easy. It would be very tough but we can always be a bit lucky some good individual performance we can win World Cup,†Dravid said while addressing the audience at inaugural TCM Sports Lecture in New Delhi on Tuesday. When asked when would India win a Test match in Australia, Dravid said in jest,â€I also want to know when they would win!†Dravid however feels that Day/Night Test cricket is something that can be tried out to stop the ever dwindling crowd in Tests. “I think in this day and age it’s impossible to have people leaving work and coming to the ground on all five days. Therefore I don’t mind Day/Night Tests if it can bring back crowds and also have TV viewership. Obviously pink ball and dew factor are things that need to be sorted out. Personally, I never had problem in the only match I played for MCC against English county champions. I scored a hundred in second innings,†Dravid said.
kosingh Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Every team just needs 3 good days. Dravid is right in that we need luck - more so than a lot of other teams.
Ram Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Could not disagree more with Rahul. Teams dont win world cups by having 'a few good days..' If that were the case, teams like New Zealand would have already won championships by now..It's not a joke to win the ODI world cup. You have to go through a lot of crisis and tribulations to eventually lift the cup. India had to pass through a Aussie team that was smelling blood in the quartetrs.. We beat Pakistan in a super-charged atmosphere in the semis.. We chased down 270 after being 10/2 against Sri Lanka. Only teams with real mettle can do this. We are nowhere close to being championship contending this time around. Our batting is a lot more worse than it was in 2011, our bowling is mediocre and we are playing in foreign conditions. This would be a successful campaign if we make the semis.
akshayxyz Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Surprising to see this comment from someone like Dravid - hope its not his actual quote.
vvvslaxman Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Lot fo people just need one good day to ace an interview lol. But they don't.
vvvslaxman Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Surprising to see this comment from someone like Dravid - hope its not his actual quote. Fallout of 2007 world cup. They just had 2 bad days they were out.
AmreekanDesi Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 what Rahul bhai is miising is that along with us having good days, we need the others to have not-so-good days simultaneously. So not that simple
AmreekanDesi Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 You need to make the day good yourself Best comment for this topic and for life in general. :hatsoff:
Mindreader Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 What if india has bad day against ireland in 1st round
yoda Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Yes you need 3 good days AND you need to have a good team.
randomGuy Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 This Rahul is hoping for achhe din ? :woot: welcome back sir. how have you been?
Cricketics Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 The statement is very unlike Rahul. I thought he would be saying something like "India needs to work hard if they want some luck." kinda stuff.
the don Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 hmmm Dravid hoping for a fluke , Doesn't seem to rate the team .
kosingh Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 hmmm Dravid hoping for a fluke ' date=' Doesn't seem to rate the team .[/quote'] Yeah exactly. That's what I got from the the statement too.
NareshK Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 He is saying the obvious. Any team needs 3 good days to win the cup because that's the way the format is.
Marut Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 I don't think Rahul means that three good days is all India needs. It is common knowledge that any of the top eight teams can beat any other top eight team. Compared to teams like Aus, SA etc, India would need more luck to win the cup, as the conditions are alien. Even 2011 wasn't won easily, this time we have pull out a miracle to win. Three good days do not happen on its own if the team is a bad one. Only one match can be treated as a play of luck, two of the three knockouts have to be won with our skills.
