Number Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 This Rahul is hoping for achhe din ? Welcome back.
The Outsider Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 He is just saying India will need a lot of luck to win - that hasn't been the case with WC winners till now. Deserving teams have won the trophy. People forget that in '83 India won an ODI in WI 3 months before the WC and also beat them in a league match. But it just might happen with this crap format and a team like WI or India or Pakistan lifting the cup.
Number Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 He is partly right. Just that you need more nerves on those 3 days. In 2011, India only beat minnows in the group stage. Then in QF 74 needed in 72 with 5 down (point from where we always collapsed in the games prior to this), in SF only Raina left with the tail at the total of 206, in Finals 31/2 chasing 275. We just showed better nerves and didn't let the opposition close the game from these points. Hardly played good dominating cricket like we did in CT 2013.
vvvslaxman Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Kohli needs three good days and India should chase. Under this criteria India could win.

goose Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Not sure this is true anymore, maybe five years ago. The format does suck a bit, but with one-day skills so finely honed nowadays (well some more than others) winning three high pressure games on the bounce probably does make you deserved winners. 50 over games are the new test cricket in this respect.

I am talking about people labeling Australia etc as deserving winners. They are favorites, no doubt, but can't be labeled as deserving. No team is deserving as they all look evenly matched. I mean look at Australia, apart from Starc, who had a late burst recently. Johnson to be honest, hasn't really done anything great. To me, there is a big whole even in Ausralian team there. Going into this world cup, I feel this is the most balanced world cup. All teams are equally talented.

But, in the current format it is quite possible that a team which sucks in the group stages and would not have reached the knock outs if the knock out stage started at the last 4, goes on to win the World Cup. That will not reflect well on the format, but it is what it is.
PBN Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 People said the same thing last world cup as well. It is the same format :dontknow:
The Outsider Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 People said the same thing last world cup as well. It is the same format :dontknow: Yeah, but in the last WC the winner was a team which was in the top 2 of its group and would have made the knock outs even if the knock out stage started at the semi final stage. There would have been criticism if WI had gone on to win the tournament from some quarters at least after beating just Netherlands, Bangladesh, and Ireland in the league stage.
Temujin Khaghan Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 This is so unfair. Saffers have - amla, kock, ABDV, faf, philader, steyn, miller, duminy, morkel yet magically Kohli will have 1 good day and all the morons listed above will not be able to stop him. wah wah ... this is like me thinking that despite not studying for the exam, i just need 3 good hours and i will mark all correct answers. so easy...
Temujin Khaghan Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Saffers will win their first WC. Even a combined Australia-NZ as a single team cannot stop them this time.

It's called performing at the biggest stage and when the odds are against you. Not taking anything away from anyone, but whoever scores and does well, they deserve regardless of how many runs they scored in the initial stage of the world cup or tournaments before that.
HippoSucks Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 We only need 3 good days. The match in the quarterfinals, semi-finals and final.

Cricketics Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Saffers will win their first WC. Even a combined Australia-NZ as a single team cannot stop them this time. They have the best bowling attack. Yes, they are favorites. If they can bat well, which they are more than capable of and put about 270+ in a knock out game, it will be tough for any team to chase against them, with the bowling they have. Unless they under perform.

I have no other expectations. every win from there on is a bonus.[/quote'] If we defeat, Pak, means we are probably finishing 2nd or first in the group. Which will mean that we will be facing most likely Sri Lanka or England who might finish 3rd or 4th as I see Aus and NZ finishing 1st and 2nd in our group. So by that scenario, you think that we really are sure shot losing to Lanka or England. We should be favorites in that scenario to reach the semis. p.s - I am just breaking it down and making it more simpler than what it looks right now.
