I remember I wanted to join army when I was kid.. but now that I have moved out the country and living a good safe life in Canada, I wonder what was my thought process.. Now, I can't even think of joining any army.. I can't comprehend the thought of dying for a country and leaving my family behind... How can someone give up their life for their country... Though I only have respect, love and have the highest regard for Indian army...

I just wanted information as I was making decision about my career but my parents thought that I had made up my mind. They didnt stop me but were in shock. I dont think I even read the complete booklet, the programs offered by countries like US/Canada are good where people can join and study for free for a few years and then do other stuff, maybe that would have convinced me.

My respect for people who join the armed forces has always been sky high, but it only keeps growing with time. To me at least, joining the army seems like a lose-lose proposition - You have to be away from your family for extended times, your compensation is often meager, the work conditions hazardous beyond belief. To be faced with all of this and yet commit to the army requires a stunning degree of self sacrifice. These guys are true heroes! :hatsoff: P.S; The only jarring thing about that interview was Barkha Dutt and her ghastly make-up. OMG, what the eff is wrong with her? Why is she turning into a Barbie doll? The contrast between Barkha's two-tonne make-up face and Indu's normal face was almost comical. :phehehe:

I am very cold when it comes to emotions but just went through this interview again till the end and I had a gulp in my throat. The poem she wrote and in the end when she says 'I will miss his simile'... During the whole interview, she didn't show her inner emotions at all n stayed solid. Maj Mukund, you are my hero man.

People do not realize that spouses of members of the armed forces are equally as brave and walk their daily lives with equal pride as their partners. Maj. Varadarajan's daughter will grow up without her father and his wife will live her life without her other half. I cannot even comprehend that sacrifice. Seeing Maj. Varadarajan's wife, one can surmise the strength it takes to be the one standing up for your family even after such immeasurable sacrifice. Wives do not get into marriages with the thought that there is a big chance of my husband being killed. The thought will enter their mind but it will be like something that happens to other people

It is a job....you practice for it all your life and when and if the time comes...you go and deliver.You are more likely to die on the road than in a war. I am part of the Territorial Army of India and my Company supports me. From what I know, no company in India can refuse its employees from being part of TA. For people who don't know about TA - here is the wikipedia link - link. You will see Kapil Dev, Mohanlal, MS Dhoni as part of it. Any able bodied person can join the TA with some tests,etc. We are second line of defense after regular army. We get few days trainings in a year - paid by employer. It is a matter of pride to serve our nation. I personally would not think for even a second if I am called for service as part of TA for any mission. TA is purely voluntary and I hope ICF mods don't mind if this looks like an advertisement. Able bodied patriotic men and women - pls do volunteer for TA. Our nation gave us so much. Time to give back. :isalute:
