That would be KLPD . Steyn is only good in the initial overs and trash in death overs .No need to waste powerplay in 11-15 when he will still be very effective Just play normal cricket and capitalize on their lack of 5th bowler in middle overs. Also SA lack death bowlers so play safe first 10-15 overs and make up for it in the last 10-15 overs massively
Bhai - If we are only 1 down in 10 overs and Steyn bowled 5 consecutive overs, he will be tired. He is their PP bowler also. We can hammer him if he is tired. My basis is that a tired Steyn bowling 6,7,8 consecutive overs will be easier to hit than when he will be rejuvenated ( and who knows how many wickets we would have lost if we take from 36th over ). If we are only 1 down - 2 of Rohit,Dhawan and Kohli will be in. I know it is a risk and 99% wont happen but just a thought.

he will be deep into his spell. depending on how many wickets are down IMO India can certainly try it out to throw SA of their plans. This game has low value so we can test it out. Agree with Kalia.
He might be tired (which i doubt ) but even Philander and Morkel are much more effective with the new ball than in latter stages. Also in last Aus tour they used Steyn as first change as well.

But they will still have Philander and Morkel to use the new ball even if Styen is tired .Taking high risks against new balls against such good new ball bowlers is uncessary strategy imo. Also dont agree with the bold.We isw very average bowler in the death>If we have good foundation can easily hammer him in latter stages.

I think with the flatness of the pitch they will use Philander and Steyn at the start to extract any swing. They will keep back Morkel for the death. Depends on the pitch if it has bounce and carry then obviously they will open with Morkel.

Ok..let me elaborate....trying to hammer or not is our choice...if we are only 1 down after 10, it means we knew how to survive...agreed? Now...Steyn,Morkel,Philander are their main bowlers...hope you agree? They can bowl total of 30 overs....if we take off 15 of those overs first up with possible bonus of tiredness, etc - then why not :dontknow: It means that out of next 35 overs, we will have 20 overs of Tahir,Duminy and lesser bowlers... To summarize, great bowlers become even more potent when batsmen attack them...let us consume their overs when we are anyway careful ( new ball).. Hope its clear.

Can't say Steyn is good only in first few overs. When he is playing with intensity he can come good later as well. He was the main destroyer in that 267-1 to 296 all out collapse in 2011. May be 13-18 would be right time to take power play.

We don't need to change much from the first game imo... If anything, I like the suggestion of switching Rahane and Rohit's position but we all know that won't happen under Dhoni. If there is any significant turn in the pitch then I think we are favorites to pull through.... On a spinning track our only major concerns in the SAF batting line-up should be Amla and AB. Overall though, SAF looks much stronger on paper and we would need one of our wonder boys to dominate on the day to compete against them.

Rohit is a ball sucker and will screw up the momentum in middle order.Rohit played 80 ODIs in middle order before and did Jack shiit there. So he should open. Binny/Bhuvi should play instead of Jaddu at MCG.

I would like to see Dhoni use Rahane right away whenever possible instead of asking Jadeja to come up if only 4 overs left. Rahane can hit as good as Jadeja. He opens for RR so he can definitely hit. And MCG is really big ground so Rahane is as good a hitter as Jadeja or anyone, so we better use him instead of sending others before him in last overs. If we have lost 2 wickets before 30th over, than Rahane can be great for us. I think currently, with the way Raina is batting, I would have him come on no. 4 as he can really take the attack to the oppositions regardless of the score and can let the guy on other end hold and rotate.

Why would you disturb the winning combination? None of them seemed to do badly enough to be dropped. Only shot India has if they bat first and manage to put up a 280-300 total. I don't back them to chase anything 240+ vs SA attack in MCG. It'll be just too much pressure.

Dhoni needs to come at 5th. At this stage, we don't need a finisher. We have Raina and Jadeja for that. We need someone who can build a strong partnership with Kohli or Rahane and coming at 6th isn't going to do that. I don't mind if Kohli comes at 3rd or 4th but he seems to be doing better at 3rd recently.

We are batting well now. All our batters are back on track. I think we have chance both by either chasing or setting up now. I don't think we have to worry about that. We just have to continue bowling well like we did in the first game. Dhawan-Rohit-Kohli-Raina-Dhoni-Rahane-Jadeja-Ashwin These guys can definitely give us 280+ total. Meaning, we can definitely put pressure on South Africa. MCG is not the easiest place to chase 300 if we put on big total batting first, we shall win if we put 290 something, provided we bowl decent. If we are chasing, I think we will win regardless with this supreme batting :two_thumbs_up:
