coffee_rules Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 GPL.. j/k.. I do see him arching his back (like a C) before delivery..more than before. That adds some pace or revolutions.. The main point is in both matches batting scored 300..that adds a lot of inches to the chest while bowling..
gakgupta Posted February 23, 2015 Author Posted February 23, 2015 Hes not bowling well' date=' batsman are forced to play him the way they are.[/quote'] Surprised with your comment. He was giving nice loop and actually turning the ball.....best spinner on display in both the matches
Cricketics Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Don't want to take anything away from Ashwin, who has bowled terrific line, but it definitely helps having to bowl with 300 runs on board. Bowler can feel that the captian will not remove him if he gets hit for a four every first few overs he bowls since they still have lot of runs to play with. Things change when you are defending 250ish or bowling first and you have to limit the runs scored by the opposition. I want to see how he bowls when we are bowling first.
Marut Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 He did not do even this last year in NZ. In all matches' date=' we got early wickets through pacers for spinners to mess it up.[/quote'] He is a big tournament player. Averages 20 in 13 games in big tournaments so far. Even in NZ when he was off color, he was among the most economical bowlers. He was flighting, as well turning the ball in both games. When chasing 300 the batsmen are obviously going to attack the spinners, but it was clear that Ashwin had the last laugh in both games.

He struggled even with big scores recently. Definitely he gets unusual purchase from these pitches. with his style on a typical Australian pitch he can hardly turn the ball. so it doesn't matter whether you have 400 or 500 in the bank he could still be ineffective. My guess is pitch is somewhat assisting him.

My guess is pitch is somewhat assisting him. It probably did. But I think he bowled really well in that first game against pak. The maiden to start with and then the wicket of of the Lefty bat(Haaris Sohail) was some terrific bowling, regardless of the pitch and the assistance. But yeah, I do trust Jadeja's bowling a little more because he seem to have more control on his deliveries as he bowls more straight and wicket to wicket line and bound to get more lbw's. A bit like Kumble actually. Ashwin, in trying to get that big sharp turn, ends up giving lot of freebies. I trust Jadeja in such situation more. I know some people might hate me for that here, but I really trust Jadeja's bowling just for the fact that he bowls wicket to wicket.
profster Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Ashwin cleared his mind. He is a very intelligent cricketer but got his mind muddled by not distinguishing between the three formats. He seems to have cut down on the funky variations, given up on the mystery balls from dark arts of spin (aka legal chucking) and instead rediscovered the craft of traditional off-spin bowling. With his height, bounce in the pitches, and large grounds in Oz, Ashwin in-form and on-song will allow Dhoniconda do its thing in the middle overs.
satishg Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 This is the best i have seen him bowl in ODIs outside Asia. He has really worked on varying the pace and bowling off spinners a bit slow and a bit more loop. This enables him to get purchase of these tracks, also as some other posters have mentioned he has been using the crease to get different angles and that has helped a lot as well. Except for couple of good sweep shots from Miller and the first 4 from Faf i think he bowled really well yesterday. Not darting and giving the ball a bit of loop while slowing the pace has worked well for him. Hope he continues this form into the tournament. Shane Warne and Sourav who usually criticize Ashwin were also very impressed with his bowling in the 2 games.
vvvslaxman Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 All said and done if Ashwin finds rythm and bit of purchase you could consider as one of those bowlers opposition would want to see off. But we have to be realistic. It won't take long before Ashwin goes back to become Sixwin.
vvvslaxman Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 By the way. i heard he bowled seam up in the first match. I remember Kumble bowling seamers against Pakistan in the final test in 2006 i think.
flamy Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Also' date=' the pause is now illegal..[/quote'] Really? :omg: Well... it's working for him, I guess. I think he was trying too much with that.
cricketpitch Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 It is funny that people criticize him so much in spite of his good showings. Yeah I am sure he is going to have a bad game and it is going to happen in the world cup. Flat pitches and short boundaries of NZ, spinners are going to get hit. But Ashwin has always done well in ICC tournaments. He has played 19 games and has taken 32 wickets at an average of 17.95 and a SR of 22.1 with an economy rate of 4.87. That is some brilliant bowling by someone who is not rated by Indians but still has managed to be the highest wicket taker for Indian across formats since his debut.
Sidhoni Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Coming more over the wicket to right handers, keeping it simple without trying too many variations, bowling stock ball more often etc.
coffee_rules Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Really? :omg: Well... it's working for him, I guess. I think he was trying too much with that. sorry not illegal, but it will be under scrutiny can be called unfair play by umpires on field. http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci-icc/content/story/791779.html WHatever it is, bowlers will do this less from now on..ek aur par kat gya ajmal ka! :hehe:
sensible-indian Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Against Pakistan, he simply turned the momentum in our favor. Pakistan were slow and steady (not threatening) but his 3 maiden overs along with Haris wicket simply opened the floodgates. He created immense pressure. Later on, he was trying stuff and got carted so his overall 8-3-42-1 won't show his impact but that match, he was one of the main guys. Against SA, going by the scorecard (I was returning home at that time), he wasn't that great in his first 3 overs. Jaddu was doing better (he was bigger hero of that match). But after the 3rd over, Ashwin really started bowling well. Could have got his 4th wicket but Parnell and Tahir were getting lucky again and again. Final ball...he beautifully flighted and Tahir edged for 4. The main reason for Ashwin's success: 1. One action for all formats (this ensured that he didn't get into any technical or rhythm issues like in the past) 2. Flighting the ball outside off and getting it to spin in. Against Pakistan, he was turning the ball the most compared to spinners of either side. Against SA, he was turning it too (from overs 3-10). Didn't see SA bowling so can't comment on their spinners. Let's see how he goes. Needs to do some minnow bashing now and get his confidence up. I want him to keep trying to flight the ball and spin it in. Get really good at it before the knockouts. And hopefully he doesn't try his garbage leg spin which isn't even club level as of now.
div Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 nothing has changed. In Australia, he struggles against Aussie batsmen In SA, he struggles against SA batsmen
div Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Away matches and neutral matches are different, India still need to improve.
jusarrived Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Away matches and neutral matches are different' date=' India still need to improve.[/quote'] Home matches dont matter anyway . Only thing what matters is how we do against SA in SA and Aus in Aus ? even spinners now ?
div Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Home matches dont matter anyway . Only thing what matters is how we do against SA in SA and Aus in Aus ? even spinners now ? he is a decent ODI spinner like Bhajji..but some people believe he is improved bowler after the test series.. the difference is we were playing against the home team in the test series, and these ODIs are neutral matches...so we should wait till the India-Australia match to know whether he is an improved bowler or not.
