If we are going to lose deliberately to avoid a certain team in QF then might as well not bother playing in WC. If we are in this to win, you will have to beat toughest team at some point.

I remember reading somewhere in cricinfo (during the match fixing scandal) that is you loose a match for money then its 100% cheating. However, if you loose a match for strategic purposes then that is completely legal. If I had the option to play ENG/BD by being on B2, i would choose that hands down. Rather not meet Aus in the quarter finals.

Didnt Aus or Pak or I forget which team - do it in one of the WC matches? They didnt drop the match, but they played slow to get another team to be eliminated? Its not like "taking money to do something", but more strategic. Teams are allowed to be ruthlessly strategic to get what they want like Chanakya, even if ICF can sneer its nose! In this case - a team (or any team) wants to advance as far as possible in the tournament, and the best chances of getting there. Its not about "whats pleasing to do" for people to clap hands.

That is how we won 2011 WC by beating Aus in QF and Pak in SF and getting strong chasing and setting big scores against good opposition. If it happens this time also, its good.If India fails ,well there is always cycle agarbathi cup to win in near future.

Err.. What is this 3-1? India's record against Aus in ICC tournaments since 2009? I count 2-2. :dontknow: As far as I can remember, CT 2009, Match rained off. WT20 2010, Aus won WC 2011, India Won WT20 2012, Aus Won CT 2013, did not meet Aus (unless you count warm up match too) WT20 2014, India won.

I watched that game live. a) NZ wasn't a strong side compared to WI in that series b) After Mongia, Ind had bowlers coming in next so Prabhakar (looking for a 100) and Mongia decided to shut the shop. I think that the excuse that they gave was that they wanted to ensure a healthy net run rate or something, but Prabhakar probably played for his 100 (unless it was some kind of match fixing). IIRC, both of them were punished If you haven't watched the game live, it is not a good idea to judge a game based on reading scorecards :winky:

Rett is right. A lot of people bamed Mongia and Prabhakar in this game for match fixing.

We played one match in triseries vs Aus. We scored 267 batting first and they needed Faulkner to win them the match in 49th over. It wasnt a cake walk by any means.

As has been explained by many, Ind is a different team in major competitions. Since 2009, I don't think Ind has lost to OZ in a major competition (WC2011, CT2013, T20) :agree: Anyways, you have problems with Ind rating Kapil high, thinking themselves #1, etc. You could be beyond help :giggle:

SL is no mug in ICC tournaments they reached SF in 2003 and finals in next two. They reached more T20 finals than India. CT 2013 also they reached semis .They always had a better bowling attack due to Malinga. Mathews now gives more balanced side in these conditions.

More than keeping NZ out, the objective was to get 2 points into Super Six... Hence they made WI qualify, and carried over 2 points they go against them in the League stage

They got beat by better teams in those finals they lost but they reached more finals than India that shows their consistency. They are not by any stretch greatest side ever but we need to respect them.Unlike Pakistan who have been awful and yet keep boosting as if they have won everything.
