The Outsider Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 What disappoints me most is that I haven't been able to give a feck about the WC so far, except for putting the DVR on 'Record' and going off to sleep with seldom bothering to replay the recorded games (except Australia versus NZ). Looks like my interest in the game has reached a point of no return from the nadir it is at. Hopefully, the knockout matches will enthuse some life.

bones Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 It's a combination of many factors, but for me it's the size of the boundaries, the flat pitches and the fielding rules that lead to much higher first inning scores which in turn lead to many more one sided games. The worse the pitch to bat on, the more I enjoy it. I would much much rather watch 5 games where the average score is 150 than 5 games where the average score is 350. I can almost certainly guarantee you that the lower scoring games will produce more exciting matches.

It can't be just two white balls or bigger bats IMO. A switch has been flicked in batsman's brains about what is possible and the floodgates have opened. A bit like the 4 minute mile.

I think the latter. For example, if the required run rate (RRR) is 9 with 20 overs to go it is becoming less likely that the chasing side can be contained i.e. either they will win by X wickets or they will be bowled out, possibly well short, of the target.
