Shivaji bhonsle Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Problem with Raina is that he tries to pull or hook the deliveries from outside of the off stump and ends up giving catch practice. He should try to leave them or try the upper cut which he is capable of playing.
vvvslaxman Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Meeting point is the problem for Raina due to his poor foot work. Kohli, Rahane meet the ball so early before getting big on them. On the other hand Raina is late. Also picking wrong balls to pull or hook compound the problem. Even Ashwin pulls better and meet the ball much earlier than Raina . Raina on the other hand meet the ball once it gains the upward trajectory.

There Hasn't Been Much Improvement from Him That Sense Which is A Shame What does that even mean? I have heard only averages against teams, bowlers plus also in countries, continents and conditions. First time I hear average against a type of delivery.

Straight Drive Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 In last years Ranji some pace bowler bowled short at him and he just took his eyes off the ball , actually looking in direction of third man while playing the hook shot. No surprise he failed to control it, the ball went up and the square leg fielder had ample time to take a very easy catch. All this happening at Ranji level on wickets which are not conducive to bounce and this players gets bounced out in worst possible way is a severe concern. Luckily in ODI's they can only bowl certain bouncers per over and he can escape it. In ODI raina can get away if he leaves the odd allowed bouncer every over. A very prolific ODI player though. However, can be more prolific if he does basics correct against short balls.

jusarrived Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 His technique against short ball is better than likes of Dhawan , problem is that hes a complulisve puller and dosent come off some times . Stop over analyzing it , hes the only batsmen we hae who can start hitting from the word go & hes bound to have failures with that approach .

He can cope with his pre-meditation in the sub-continent with low and slow pitches. On bouncy tracks, he becomes a bit of a bunny. His horrible hook/pull technique doesn't make things easier for him.
vvvslaxman Posted March 8, 2015 Posted March 8, 2015 Watching his 87 of 25 balls.. At the wannkhede bounce was not really low. But he was able to connect most of them because of slowness of surface. He did get some of the balls high on the bat. But his bat speed, muscle power just makes up for his lack of technique on a relatively slowish surface. cowboysfan Posted March 19, 2015 Author Posted March 19, 2015 Bangbros bowled poorly against him,he still kept walking across his stumps and all they had to do is bowl a bit wide outside off or a bouncer outside off,the aussies wont make that mistake,
