Muloghonto Posted April 28, 2015 Posted April 28, 2015 The groundwork can be set in the next 3 years. India is capable of producing seaming wickets and we have done so in the past. Nagpur 2004/Mohali of the 90s spring to mind. We can produce such wickets for 'dead rubber' matches. Also, we NEED to do Ashwin &wicketkeeper in the #6/#7 slot to field 3 fast bowlers. None of our fast bowlers are fit or good enough to exert pressure over 25 overs in an innings and produce 350 all out against top class opposition on pace-friendly wickets or dead wickets. Our fast bowlers therefore, nee more backup. In Indian conditions we can field 4 bowlers + Ashwin over the next 3 years to fine-tune our pace battery as well as grow them through a lesser workload. India has enough batting depth to be 5 specialist + Ashwin + wicketkeeper in Indian conditions, so IMO, this brings some intriguing positions for the future.

Further they dont have any notable spinner in their teams We just need to unearth good spinners to beat them.. batting should take care

RSA has Amla, ABDV, Faf who are at the peak of their powers and Steyn who is a gun bowler in Asia. Their team is an ATG test team, unbeaten overseas since 2007 and are quite simply a far superior team to India in all 3 departments even in Indian conditions. They beat a very strong Lankan team last year, a feat we haven't been able to do since 1993. they are mentally very tough and can win from drawn positions and draw from lost positions, an absolutely clutch team. I expect us to lose narrowly 1-2 because we do not fear RSA and have always given them a tough fight in test cricket since 2000. Coming to England Anderson will be the key. the hold he has on our batsmen reminds me of Mcgrath, he has terrorized our top batsmen every single series since 2007. Anderson, Broad, Plunkett, Finn, Stokes, Ali, Tredwell will be tough to handle and we can not get the likes of Cook, Root, Ballance, Bell out twice in a test match. They play a waiting game unlike Aussies, wear us down and we find it really tough against their abrasive style of cricket. They won't give wickets in clusters unlike Aus even on dustbowls. The most worrying thing for me is that our players fear England. Since 2011 we are 2-9 in tests and it seems they just have to turn up to beat us. Not only have they beaten us 9 times in the last 4 years but the margins have been huuuuuge. And like RSA they will be motivated when they come here, beating India in India is something all teams have on their bucket list, and beat us royally they will.

I have doubts on the effectiveness of Tahir in subcontinent.. gives atleast 1 boundary ball per over. Tredwell/Moeen are not in the same class as Swann. Regarding our batsmen's ability to play spin, lot has changed from last Eng series in India.. the openers are different/Tendulkar has retired. We need 1 more spinner, preferably a leggie

If Amla and AB fire, I can see SA going past India, but England have no chance winning in India. Steyn won't be the same force he was during the last India tour so they would have to do really well to bowl out India twice.
