coffee_rules Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 It is such a downer. Chutneys, uttappam, some green chilli curries (like Sagu), don't taste the same. Some stores here in NJ are selling them in black market illegally - $8/9 per pound. It is due to high pesticide residue on them. First banned in Gelf and it now in USA. :wall:

It's not available in stores, asked the owner, she said it is banned. Google has no links, but some forums are discussing these. A friend is using Bedekar's green chilli pickle in chutneys to get by. Jalapenos, Serano peppers, nothing can substitute for the Indian green chilli peppers in terms of taste..

Jarabacoa Greenhouse Cluster president Romulo Abreu said Agriculture will buy a considerable amount of bell peppers to supply the Government’s social programs relating to food. He said the agreement was reached Monday in a meeting with Agriculture minister Angel Estevez, Cluster representatives, the Jarabacoa Farmers Co-op and other entities. "We agreed on a program where Agriculture will receive virtually the entire production of ripe peppers to alleviate the situation from the US ban." Abreu said Agriculture will buy the first batch of 100,000 pounds of chili peppers at RD$15 per pound in the next few days, which equals roughly half of what is normally paid for export. "For us the average export price is RD$28 per pound, but it will now be RD$15 per pound. We're losing almost half, but we have no choice for now." Hot peppers Acento reports a similar agreement reached with hot chili farmers of Villa Trina, in northeastern Espaillat province. Some of the Indian vegetables in USA are imported from Caribbean, Mexico and south America.

I beleive most of the veggie marts are korean marts. Yes, they are popular among desis but bot as fresh as some of the american stores like safeway. Their prices are just better.

Not just a veggie mart ... they have it all.
