Thank you Gambo for your words of wisdom, every young Indian cricketer should read this and mug up the words. Domestic cricket(Ranji,Duleep,Irani etc) are the real parameters of judging whether you are up to it in test/ODI cricket. Ashwin till date is the only real IPL success story, after 7.5 frigging years. And our hero Dhoni hasn't played a single domestic 4 day match since 2005, but he will never miss a single Tamasha game no matter what, even an overseas tour( to Lanka 2008) isn't a big deal in front of his Godfather's corrupt den. Thank God that guy has been booted out, if any of our other players doesn't agree with the KKR captain, they don't have much of a future in the real formats. Sad that Gambo himself fell prey to the riches of IPL/arrogance earlier and lost it in international cricket, these words must hurt him for he could have been a long term asset for Indian cricket had he believed these words back then.

HippoSucks Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 Yes, a FC tournament where Vinay Kumar is considered a top bowler will definitely help a batsman improve his technique. Scoring triple hundreds against those weak bowling attacks is an indication of nothing. In IPL, even though it is for 20 overs, the players have a chance to face some of the best bowlers in the world from various teams. I would think a full IPL season imparts more to a batsman who has played a few FC seasons before but hasn't faced any international bowlers.

A bowler bowls about 70 overs in a season of IPL which is about 1.5 games of FC cricket. Can't develop too much from that. The quality of players on average is a lot lower though.

Here's something that will shock anyone who didn't follow Ranji 14/15: Leading wicket taker: Legend Koomar, 48 wickets, 18 average, 41 strike rate....fearsome bowler at Ranji level :facepalm: No wonder just about every half decent batsman in Ranji averages over 50. The only real way to judge is A tours for Tests and for LOI's IPL + LO A tour games.

Him getting all those wickets isn't as bad (or good if you're a tr00 crvket fanâ„¢) as the great Joginder Sharma averaging 21 with the ball for his FC career overall.
