urbestfriend Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 Unfortunately, my experience with the poster is different. And even in this thread, it is quite evident IMO. Liking a movie has nothing to do with my reaction. Many have criticized the movie in this thread itself and I had no issue with their opinion ( leaving aside a bit of petty harmless trolling which we all indulge once in a while ). It is the selective picking up of a fringe opinion ( on a movie that she has not even watched) and posting and even refusing to acknowledge that far worse has been portrayed already that is cringe-worthy. If this is 'secular', we have set the bar too low. Point people are making here is you are free to feel touchy about bahubali and go after whoever posts against Bahubali, but while doing that, please do not attribute it to person's political view or religion which has nothing to do with this post. Agreed that you are not the only one to attack a poster for his or her political view on an unrelated post, and this seems to be norm for many political posters here( plenty of posters are AAPtard or pakis here), but this is absolutely wrong.
zen Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 These issues have already been discussed. South Indian movies especially Tollywood movies don't respect women as much. Anything goes for them. In one Mahesh Babu movie' date=' he says to the girl, "nee color yenti naa color yenti?"!!! Roughly translates to .. Look at yourself and me, but is such a low blow. This didn't start with Bahubali. The article also mentions Kick which was a copy of a Tollywood movie. It's how directors think what the male audience likes to watch and it is highly deplorable.[/quote'] +1
Yoda-esque Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 There is racism and male chauvinistic behavior in all Indian movies The same author Anna MM Vetticad has written about male chauvinistic behavior in blockbuster Bollywood movies too. read this, another article of the same author... Salman Khan in Kick and Akshay Kumar in Holiday continue the Bollywood tradition of sexually harassing their heroines under the guise of humour and romance http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/blink/watch/molesters-or-heroes/article6268105.ece Baahubali as an epic fantasy movie, might be good fun, but i agree that this particular scene was tasteless... A movie should tell the story it wants to without worrying about social/political correctness.Cue: Haider I bet Vetti didnt protest that...
Number Posted August 27, 2015 Posted August 27, 2015 More so, because I am married to a Hindu male. Poor guy. Another victim of love jihad.:protest:
Vijy Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 Kalia' date=' Mariyam is a top poster and from what I have seen she is really secular. Never does she play this Hindu-Muslim cr@p. I have been in this forum for a few years now and I have always found her to be a rational minded knowledgeable person always eager for constructive debate and willing to expand her horizon. In fact I would say that other posters have a lot to learn from her viz a viz tolerance and etiquette. You too are a great poster, so am really surprised to see you lash out this way. May be you love Rajamouli and Bahubali so much that you have become overly sensitive to any perceived criticism or different opinion. Whatever it is I am sure she didn't mean to antagonize you in any way, chill man. Most of us here loved the movie. In fact this is my 1st Telegu movie and I believe it has set the bar for Hindi, other regional movies in this genre. :icflove:[/quote'] As someone else mentioned, you should definitely check out some of the South Indian mythological genre movies of the 50s and 60s.
Gollum Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 As someone else mentioned' date=' you should definitely check out some of the South Indian mythological genre movies of the 50s and 60s.[/quote'] Sure will do, but need English/Hindi subtitles.
Vijy Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 Sure will do' date=' but need English/Hindi subtitles.[/quote'] I dunno if they exist though... might exist for the Tam movies, if not the Telugu and Kannada ones.
Kalia_Test Posted August 28, 2015 Author Posted August 28, 2015 Sure will do' date=' but need English/Hindi subtitles.[/quote'] I am not really sure if you want to watch 50s B&W mythological movies but below is one by NTR and it has English subtitles. Movie name is Indrajeet. Don't think it was a major hit or anything but if you like mythological movies, then it is for you. Whenever I want to watch an old movie ( in a language I don't understand ) with subtitles, I search for the video in Youtube and then filter on subtitles/CC. Old movies are usually uploaded by their Rights holders onto YT and some put in Subtitles too.
Kalia_Test Posted August 28, 2015 Author Posted August 28, 2015 Rajamouli - Won't block screens for false records http://movies.ndtv.com/regional/baahubali-50-not-out-wont-block-screens-for-false-records-1211629 rajamouli ss ✔@ssrajamouli Record number of 50 days, 100 days,175 days are things of past. Our industry is rajamouli ss ✔@ssrajamouli plagued by this issue for a long time. Let’s not be a part of it. It is high time we stopped this. Ram Gopal Varma ✔@RGVzoomin @ssrajamouli You are bang on right..One should look at the final collections ..Thinking of number of weeks and days is prehistoric thinking ---------------- Rajamouli sir - :hatsoff: It is not just his amazing visualizations and execution, he is the one to break barriers and usher in a new Era in Indian cinema :two_thumbs_up:
sandeep Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 Geez Kalia, make sure you don't spit after, just swallow.
sandeep Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 ok, that may be a bit harsh. But the "lionization" is a bit much, no?
Kalia_Test Posted August 28, 2015 Author Posted August 28, 2015 ok' date=' that may be a bit harsh. But the "lionization" is a bit much, no?[/quote'] It has been a trend of Indian cinema to boast of 100 days, 365 days, 5 years, etc when it is pretty clear that it was supported by 'vested' interests. Usually the movie runs in one show in one city in one theatre. It is all just for records. A mainstream director openly condemns it and is backed by another mainstream director is a goood thing. No?
sandeep Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 I guess that is fine, but what is with the glorification of "saar"? That came across as extreme fanboyish...
Gollum Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 Rajamouli Sir as usual setting the bar for others in India.:hatsoff: Lion of Andhraland, last flicker of light in this semi dead Indian film industry.
Kalia_Test Posted August 28, 2015 Author Posted August 28, 2015 I guess that is fine' date=' but what is with the glorification of "saar"? That came across as extreme fanboyish...[/quote'] I have always referred not just Rajamouli but many other Bollywood, Kollywood directors like Shankar as Sir. You can check my posts in this thread itself. Sir was not exclusive to Mr. Rajamouli. It is my habit and might be right or wrong based on individual perceptions. IMO - my referring to someone as Sir or not is least relevant - more relevant is the point these directors made- which I found commendable. Rest is your opinion. :two_thumbs_up:
sandeep Posted August 28, 2015 Posted August 28, 2015 You are missing my point - its fine to applaud the director's tweet about not chasing meaningless records, but lets not anoint him the chose one just yet. This thread seems to have become a celebratory circle jerk for fans who think Bahubali is awesome. Anyone who disagrees gets accused of ulterior motive. That's a bit disappointing...

This thread seems to have become a celebratory circle jerk for fans who think Bahubali is awesome. Anyone who disagrees gets accused of ulterior motive. That's a bit disappointing... I don't think posters in this thread are qualified or even have mettle or numbers to appoint anyone as chosen one. A few feel he is qualified. Their opinion. Nothing that will change things overnight. BTW - Sandeep - and don't take it personally. Someone who puts a signature like you have now and accusing others as fanboyism - umm - just does not sound well. No? Chill:two_thumbs_up:
BeautifulGame Posted August 29, 2015 Posted August 29, 2015 Rajamouli Sir as usual setting the bar for others in India.:hatsoff: Lion of Andhraland' date=' last flicker of light in this semi dead Indian film industry.[/quote'] That's not true . Rajamouli with this film has set the bar for making high budget film making great commercial success . But for the quality of a film this is not . There were few films in Tamil alone which were of much higher quality in last year or 2 and made for 1/100th of its budget . Its same for Shankar who was the predecessor for Rajamouli and these types of films .

So to project this as somehow light in dead Indian cine industry is nonsense +1 There is a ultra-low budget movie called Kaaka muttai in tamil which is absolutely fascinating i hear. Shankar and Rajamouli are the Micheal Bays of Indian movies nothing more. There are far more superior directors who make good cinema for a niche audience in India. Would have loved to participate in discussing both the flaws and thrills in this movie with equanimity if not for the blind hatred or the hyper praise that has been the trend here..
