Malcolm Merlyn Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 Mirpur: In a strong statement accusing India captain MS Dhoni of shoving Mustafizur Rahman on purpose, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hazsan on Friday said none of the Bangladeshis liked what the visiting skipper did in the first ODI. Dhoni and debutant Rahman, who was hero of Bangladesh's upset win on Thursday, were fined on Friday by match referee Andy Pycroft, who found the duo guilty of breaching ICC Code of Conduct and charged them with a Level 2 offence. The two players had pleaded not guilty, following which the hearing was called and attended by the players as well as the respective team managers. Speaking on the incident, Hassan made his board's stand very clear by saying that they never expected something like that from a player of Dhoni's stature. "We didn't like what Dhoni did yesterday [Thursday] night. It [pushing Rahman] was never expected of him," the BCB president told reporters outside the team hotel here. And what could further irate the Indian team is Hassan's hint that it's India who hold a grudge against Bangladesh and not the other way round. "We play to increase our friendship and only those who have grudges on their mind do that," the president added. The incident in question happened during the 25th over of the first ODI here on Thursday, which Bangladesh won by 79 runs. Dhoni, who was scampering for a quick single, barged into the young fast bowler Mustafizur, who was in his follow-through after completing a delivery. The India captain, however, maintained that there was nothing intentional about the incident and that he was left with no chances than to bump into the bowler as he had to complete the run. "In the hearing, Dhoni defended the charge on the basis that the bowler was on the wrong line; and realising that he couldn't avoid the collision, he used his hand and arm to push him away as he went through to 'minimise the impact'," the match referee said in his official statement. Pycroft, however, didn't agree with Dhoni and went on to slap a fine on both the players. The India captain was fined 75% of his match fee. The Bangladesh pacer later "admitted that that his actions in not getting out of the batsman's way were inappropriate" and was handed a fine of 50% of his match fees. Hassan also touched upon the controversial World Cup quarterfinal in Melbourne, where Bangladesh blamed their defeat on biased umpiring. " Don't want to get into what happened in Melbourne. India is a strong team. We are happy to improve against such a strong side. Nothing is kind of revenge. India has helped us [bCB] a lot. [bCCI President Jagmohan] Dalmiya has helped us a lot. Decisions in the World Cup were not taken by India. It was [poor] umpiring," the BCB president said. Speaking about his side's win in the first ODI, Hassan said that he expects the series to be decided in the final ODI on June 24. "We are confident that India will bounce back.
