I am talking about why he is famous all over India . He is an incredible human being that inspired generations. We have had stellar scientists in the past. We have had great presidents as well. But nobody's death has been mourned like this.
The Outsider Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 It's difficult to judge Kalam as a scientist simply because most research in organizations he worked in was confidential and unpublished. Only people who worked with him on a day to day basis can make that judgment. However, that is irrelevant because first and foremost he is celebrated as a scientific leader rather than a scientist. His main achievements are around getting right teams together to work on the right projects under terribly constrained budgets and enormous red tape. That he was successful there shouldn't be of any doubt.

He certainly is an extraordinary human being who could inspire less ordinary people to achieve greater success in his field . Even Edison/Graham Bell were more of successful entrepreneurs rather than innovators as we know them now.

What is the point of having a mercurial scientist who is so engrossed in his research and contribution to science,that he is poached by other nations....This has happened before and after Kalaam and will happen forever and ever. This is where Kalaam is a man apart...the man is a visionary and a patriot and we need more people like this who have the vision and the drive to work for the country and lead the scientific community of india to greater heights. For arguments sake let us assume that AQ Khan is a genuis and 10 times the scientist Kalaam is...let us assume this guy figured out everything that takes to build an atomic bomb whatever that is....what is the fking point of that? He tried to sell (or did he already?)the technology to North Korea and other highest bidders....do we need a mercurial scientists like that? I know bringing AQ Khan into this topic brings a great source of grief and pain to some posters here :giggle: especially the ones from the scientific community on ICF as they hold MR.Khan in high reverence for his brilliant scientific mind,and I know this is not a Khan vs Kalam thread but the fact is it pisses me off that a 2 bit crook has the balls to spew crap about one of the finest human beings and arguably one of the greatest son of the soil of our country. I will take one "ordinary" Kalaams over 100 "mercurial" AQ Khans

One of the primary figures behind SLV whose derivative - PSLV has been the backbone of Antrix/ISRO. He pretty much is singularly responsible for overseeing the birthing of the entire gamut of missile systems you seen in Indian Armed Forces today. There has been been a tech embargo on India (in the critcal fields). So Indian Scientists and Engineers have to essentially reinvent the wheel. If that is considered "average", then Newton was a thief since Differential Calculus was developed in India 3 centuries prior to principia being released. (actually I guarantee that someone in the near future will connect the dots between Kerala school of mathematics, Jesuits, European Institutions of learning).
