I am planning to buy a car in the near future. My first choice has been a c segment sedan. I have always been inclined towards Maruti Suzuki as the service centers are easy to find even in smaller towns or a bit remote areas and that keeps maintenance cost is quite low. After that Hyundai for the same reason. Budget wise : upto 15 on road. With that obvious choice is Ciaz. But the engine is only 1.4 L which is putting me off. Verna is good in all aspects except that its mileage sucks and interior is pretty bad compared to other C Segment sedans. I am trying to avoid Nissan, Fiat or Renault since the maintenance is a huge issue with these guys with very less service centers though I like Fiat Linea and Renault Scala. Its putting huge doubts in my mind and I am thinking whether this segment actually has any value for money cars.

Go for the Verna if it's between Ciaz and Verna. I actually think otherwise, the Verna has very good mileage and the interiors too. The only con was the suspension but the new Verna got it sorted to a great extent. You can even consider the new Hyundai Baby SUV, Creta. I'd suggest you to stretch the budget a bit and go for the Skoda Octavia. Skoda's AFSS has improved a lot in the last few years. It's the best car in the C/C+ segment along with Corolla.

Go for Honda Fit.
Fit ? I think they have launched it with the name Jazz in India. Its very small actually and the price is huge for that size. :((
I like my ford Ecosport . Been over two years no complains
I think both Ecosport and Duster are really good going by their numbers. Is it good to drive in traffic ?

Actually Verna's infotainment has very less features Ciaz has the latest infotainment also no rear seat AC vents in Verna. May be they have added this in the latest version. Not sure how good is Skoda when it comes to maintenance.

The maintenance cost of entry sedans like Vento, Rapid, Verna, Linea etc is very high, and low milage. I These pretend as did they r luxury sedans. Even Ciaz isn't cheap. it's a myth that Maruthi is cheap to maintain. Only alto 800 is cheap. If u could stretch a bit, go for Chevy Cruze. It's milage and maintenance cost is same as the one I listed above lol. It's very powerful and fun to drive. I love it. Stay away from Octavia or Jetta, They are good but it's a time bomb that keeps burning ur budget. If really want an entry level sedan, Honda City is the best all round imo. I like the new fiesta, but no one buys it. But I would suggest u to buy the second variant of any car and keep the cost around 10L. Getting a c segment for more than 10 or 11 is not worth.

Get a used Honda Civic FD then (8th Generation), That car is worth every penny.

Not the best person to answer the question as I am not aware of the current line up offered in Ind but one way to pick would be to go for the one where you get the best deal as neither of the cars are going to be 100% of what you are looking for .... Alternatively, focus on 2 or 3 key features that you seek and decide based on that Some of the factors to consider: * On road price * Interest rates (if offered by manufacturer's) * How long do you plan to keep the car for? * Resale value * Extended warranties (if offered) * Safety * Performance (HP, Braking, etc.) Unless you are buying a German/European car, the maintenance costs should be competitive w/ Indian and Korean brands being relatively cheaper The number of service center also may not be a big issue unless you are traveling to remote areas (say 5 for x brand vs. 8 for y brand in your area; when brand x service center is near your home).... Similarly, the mileage would depend upon the number of kilometers traveled for e.g. say you drive for 100 kms per day. Car A uses 10 liters per 100 kms, while car B used 9. So at Rs 70 per liter, you are only spending 0.70 paise per km more on Car A which would not be a big deal for a preferred brand

You can consider Toyota corolla as the shaan of that car is in another segment

Yeah both are good cars , but Duster is slightly bigger and 2-3 Lacs more expensive . Ecosport is a good drive both in the city and long drives , obviously its not powered as the big SUVs but since its small its quite easy driving in the city traffic . No hassles parking . Mileage is pretty good , I drive a diesel . I get ~16-17 in the city and ~20 on Long drives . I wanted the petrol/ecoboost one but dint have the patience to wait for another 2-3 months having already waited long. Haven't spent on maintenance in 2 years . Spacious , lot of legroom and comfortable for 5 . I have driven from Bangalore to Goa with 5 people . I regularly do a ~270 drive from Bangalore in 3 hrs without over driving. Overall happy I bought the car .

Corolla as an alternative to Octavia then. Look no further.
