Gollum
Virat Kohli might be getting flak for persisting with an out-of-form Rohit Sharma, but Sunil Gavaskar backed the skipper’s faith in the young batsman. “I think if you have a look at how Virat Kohli’s Test career shaped up, then you will have to say that maybe his trust, his faith in Rohit Sharma is justified. Virat, remember for a half-a-dozen Test matches, didn’t look as if he was going to get the kind of runs that he is getting now. “Rohit Sharma on the other hand started his Test career with a bang, two back-to-back hundreds and after that he was inconsistent. He got a couple of fifties but hasn’t got those big hundreds,†he said. READ: Sri Lanka players must be given credit for their win over India in first Test at Galle But atleast we have seen that he is capable of the big shots, capable of playing the big innings and Virat, if the captain has trust and faith in you I think you got to back that. “So I would back Virat as far as his faith in Rohit Sharma is concerned, for the simple reason that perhaps he is thinking of his own career. How the first half-a-dozen Test matches went for him before he got that hundred and before he got the consistency with which he is now getting the hundreds,†he added. READ: Sunil Gavaskar: Stop aggressive talks and focus on the game On asked about India’s ploy to add an extra batsman in the next Test, Gavaskar reiterated his ‘horses for courses’ theory. “That is something that the pitch will dictate. From here we can’t say that we need an extra batsman or not. In the first innings with the five batsman they got almost 400 runs, so it’s not as if an extra batsman was missed. Wriddhiman Saha batting at six also got a good score. So I think it’s horses for courses,†he said. kosingh
Not just Sunny. Everyone in the cricket fraternity loves Rohit. In the last few months I've heard so many ex cricketers praise Rohit. Martin Crowe. Shane Warne. Ian Chappell. John Wright. Dhoni, Tendulkar and Virat. Shastri, Bangar, Duncan Fletcher. Ponting. Laxman. Akram. The only one who said something rational about Rohit was Wasim Jaffer "Rohit needs to score runs when it matters " http://www.dnaindia.com/sport/report-rohit-needs-to-fire-in-matches-that-matter-wasim-jaffer-2067715 Link to comment
CG
In any sport you have to keep on improving and players who looked hopeless when starting have improved leaps and bounds .recently vijay was said to be a flat track bully who could not score a run in tough conditions look at him now indias best batsman oversees.Sa showed remarkable patience and faith in amla devilliers when they started and failed in test cricket.Rohit has to improve as captain faith can only take him so long. sensible-indian
Just see how Rohit couldn't get in line of the ball which made it obvious why he missed the spin. Dumb feck people. Link to comment
Adi_91
Been in the team (although in and out) for 8 years now from ICC World Twenty20 2007. Still not making an impact in all forms of the game is not acceptable performance to be playing. If people are still talking about his talent after 8 years, it shows he is not justifying it. vamos_rafa
I say bring back Kambli. Even he was talented and was from Mumbai. Maybe he can justify his talent now. Link to comment

kosingh
Now we know that just after we have criticized Rohit to death on ICF, and now that he's getting to the end of his rope, he is going to score a 200 in the next match and cement his place for 18 months. And those 18 months will be back to scores of 5s and 10s Link to comment

Pagalpanti
Read the OP people. Sunil is saying he gets why Kohli is persisting, he isn't quite saying he agrees with Rohit being in the team. Link to comment

We're still waiting for him to become dependable. Even Sehwag or even Viv Richards were never fully dependable....they created chances for the opposition as well...they were exciting but you expected something to happen either side of the fence but they ended up in being the biggest x factors for heir teams. Why don't we accept the fact that he is a once in a generation talent that needs some support, grooming and backing Rohit Sharma has some amazing shots, no wonder gets the backing. But his defensive is flawed. He can get away with this while playing ODIs, but test matches will expose those weaknesses threadbare. Rohit keeps getting out in very predictable ways - even cricket fans can notice this, imagine how the opposition bowlers are planning for him every time. Link to comment
