Rohit went averaging 100+ in last 2 series he played before Australia. He deserved every chance he got in Australia and Asia cup. Rahane is an opening batsman, don't think they would ever play him in the middle order.

When he was dropped in 2010 he had a very poor Ranji season too. Even in 2011-12 he was poor until Ranji finals, IIRC.

and on what basis do you conclude that? Yuvraj is a LOI legend and Raina is on his way to being one but they couldn't cut it at the test level So are you going by that theory to conclude that Rohit will fail at the test level because he has had a poor ODI record? That is not a valid reasoning.....You fit the mould of our selectors who give test chances to players based on ODI performances. I admit Rohit has not been a success at the ODI level but since he has been given a long rope on the basis of what everyone believes mercurial talent,why should we give up on him after all these years being on the fringe of the test squad without playing a single game. Wouldn't it end the debate once and for all about Rohit Sharma? I believe the Yuvraj/Raina spot is his and it will be unfair now to try anyone else.
