Rahane is an aggressive cricket .In test cricket u don't need to blindly slog like Rohit thinks to score quickly Check videos of Rahane's knocks at Lord's or Brisbane or MCG boxing day to know how aggressive cricket is played in test cricket .
Don't make assumptions and put theories based on those assumptions. Rohit is capable of taking calculated risks - and take them early in his innings. If you really think that - when both of them click - and the need of the hour is to score quick runs in say 50-70 balls - Rahane will score more than Rohit batting at No.5 - then :banghead:

Pujara once set has shown he can accelerate with best of them, who knows if this poor guy was not saddled with facing new ball innings after innings and not entrusted with blunting the new ball for later order. Unlike any top order in this line up this guy has shown that he can score double hundreds too if somebody was blunting the new ball for him he could have totally different player.

If someone blunted new ball, Pujara might find batting easier but he'd not have the opportunity to soak up that many balls... as you saw in this knock, scored 30 in the first 100 balls and around 100 in the next 160. If he came at 5, with 5-bowler theory, I reckon he would not have full chance to maximize potential. For a 5 bowler attack, I believe it should be Chepu at 3, Rahane at 4 and Kohli at 5.

Yeah we all saw them when he asked Steyn to come to India :cantstop: Tell me this . How many times in the last two years we actually had a scenario where we needed 50-70 quick runs and Rohit produced ? Then u mentioned aggressive cricket and said we need Rohit for that .Is this scenario what u think is aggressive cricket in test cricket ? U don't select players for test cricket based on that criteria .Otherwise Raina is the best option as Rohit isn't a quick scorer when new to the crease

Sachin did not bat at no4 when he started once he and everyone knew he was the best batsmen in the team he was batting at no4. Nobody is asking Rahane to open, opening is specialist role not everyone can do it, no5 is not specialist role. You stack you best middle order from 3 to 6, 6 being the slot for trying new comers. If Pujara is batting at no3, I dont have any issues with Rahane being at no5, so what happens if Pujara is not there in the team, Rahane should be batting at no 3 period. You bring in another newcomer just to play no3 so rahane can sit at his cozy no5 spot while this new comer is made sacrificial lamb, when people are giving allowance for Rahane and his lack of technique why is the same allowance not given to another batsmen.
I don't have an issue with Rahane at 3 if Pujara is not playing But we dropped Pujara for Nohit so we have no business playing Rahane @ 3 hiding Nohit @ 5 and all the while benching our best no.3 for carrying drinks .

Yeah now lets start cherry picking stats :giggle:...you can't hide facts and also he has been India's most consistent this series regardless of what you think....Played 4 crucial innings out of 6. 2 critical 50's one that won the game and the other that set up a game....2 tricky partnerships where his own flair and natural stroke making ability was sacrificed to buckle down uncharacteristically ...first the Rahane 100 and then the Pujara 100 would not have been possible without his support....so that is 4 MVP like innings out of 6.
2 terrible knocks that led to India's collapse and loss of Test :cantstop: Even in the first innings it was Pujara who held the forte. This guy did zilch. The thing is you have to add up all the series he played away and the net result is way below average. MIshraji, Bhuvaneswar, Shami all got overseas 50s at some point. This guy got a couple like that. YOu need scores like 100 plus to be compared with other test batsmen.

Why do think he would take that many balls to get going he will be walking in facing already old ball, he is soaking up so many deliveries because he is either walking in first five overs. This doing donkey's work for late order batsmen has already costed this guy a lot in his career. Rahane can play strokes and if is very good batsmen he should be ideally more suited at no3 ala Ricky Ponting.

Because we did that and selected Rohit by dropping Pujara .Instead of bringing the natural no.3 in Pujara to replace Rohit we sacrificed Rahane in an unfamiliar role to keep Rohit in the team We have Pujara who averages 80 in sub continent better that anyone in cricketing history yet we dont play him at no.3 because we want to accommodate Rohit .Tell me why shouldnt we put up with above average performances when we have our best player of spin bowling in the bench? Please dont tell me Rohit deserves no.5 ahead of Rahane because Rohit batted ahead of Rahane at 5 in SA tour.Only after his poor tecnique was exposed and Rahane proved himself with runs was he promoted to no.5 Now we shifted him where he averages 50 so as to accomodate Rohit again? So why the feck should we not be complaining about Rohit when the whole team is being messed with so as to select Rohit Most wont complain (atleast i wont) if he selected as no.6 in the side .But if we want go with five bowlers in sub continent then Rohit has no business being in the team. Both Pujara and Rahane are far superior players than him .So its natural he gets the hate when he is selected
Things like sacrificed, conspiracy, vendetta against a player is what is total bs.....It looks like and not aimed at you but hate towards a particular player has made other players martyrs and messiahs on this forum. Rohit was the first guy to be dropped among the top 6 batsman after the Newzealand series to accomodate 5 bowlers......Even in Australia he was dropped, which clearly means he was last in the pecking order......around this time, clearly Pujara was preferred over him and obviously Pujara's performance was underwhelming which made him sit out....he was replaced by Raina and not Rohit FYI.......simple question what is the lesser devil here??? Now Raina is clearly out of contention as everyone has realized that he has had a long enough rope and he is not tailor made for test cricket, where as Rohit by no means has set the world of test cricket on fire, has 3 50's in the last 5 tests he played and a couple of >50 innings which are decent enough to keep him in contention. Don't see what the problem here is? Rahane despite having a tag of scoring 100's everywhere and rightfully India's 2nd best test bat after Vijay is pretty inconsistent as well.....Dhawan has been hit or miss......Rahul has shown promise but needs a lot more work....Kohli had a disastorous England tour but made up for it in Aus but has shown vulnerability at times....so tell me again why shouldn't Rohit be in the mix of things? I guess hate for Rohit has made people lose subjectivity here.

Top 3 should have the ability to play long innings and score daddy 100s. I believe that only Chepu can do that, and Rahane is better suited at 4 - he's not a Ponting; more of a No.4 bat in my mind. Kohli should be shunted down to 5 though; he's the best ODI bat and I reckon he'll do well against more tired bowlers.

You are stating the obvious and as I said every player bar Vijay in last 1.5 years has been hit or miss.

That is because he has rarely been provided a platform. Still, however, he has managed to buckle down and score valuable half-centuries for the team and pull us back

In a 5 batsmen theory' date= we cannot have snails like Vijay, Rahane and Chepu in same X1 - period. You need a lower order aggressor that can be a Laxman or a Gilly. If it is 5 batsmen - one of Chepu/Rahane misses out.
As usual, talking nonsense. Strike Rates ... Vijay - 47 Pujara - 49 Rohit - 52 Rahane - 57 Kohli - 54 Strike Rate is not the defining factor in test batsmanship anyway. Volume of runs is. Building a long innings is. Most international batsmen's SR is between 45 and 55. Only very few like Gilchrist and Sehwag have very high SRs with good test average. And your reasoning for higher SR (which Rohit doesn't have anyway) in a 5 batsmen theory is even more ridiculous. Logically, the batsmen can take longer to score the same number of runs because the bowlers (more number) can take the opposition wickets relatively quicker. From most of your posts, you come across as a troll or delusional or lacking basic understanding of cricket.

You are asking this about a batsman that played all of 13 Tests over so many years ? Let Rohit play 50 more Tests. You will get your answer. At the moment, no one including Rahane has proved himself. Potential is all we have. And Rohit has LOADS of it. If you really ask - the myth of Rahane and his technique has been shattered ( as for Rahul - he better dig a hole and hide for a few years) . At No.5, we have better options.

Good you have stats available for every counter argument.....The fact is plain and simple.....As I have mentioned earlier....Apart from Vijay,no other batsman has had a streak of consistency.......Rohit was made to sit out even under DHoni who was his biggest backer, even more than Virat,so the theory that he is stealing spots and killing careers is just stupid consiracy spread from pure hatred. The only guy who got an undeserving chance and thankfully only one off is Raina and he was rightfully thrown after that. I like Pujara and Rahane too but it is poor bs to make them seem like victims and state that they have performed at an unmatched level than others.

Huh? You were talking about snail pace and fast scoring, and I gave you the SR stats, which are actually facts. Instead of going in all tangents, why don't you explain the missing high SR of Rohit, and why you need faster scoring in a 5-batsmen team as against a 6-batsmen team?

A little off-topic but what would Tendulkar's estimated strike-rate be? It's never shown on player profiles.
I think SRs were probably not recorded in the early part of Sachin's career. Lara's is about 60, I'm guessing Sachin's should be in the 55-60 range.
