Jeans disallowed: New dress code to enter temples (starting Jan 1, 2016)

Jeans is no longer a 'party dress'. People wear it to offices, even. So, if someone wants to stop by the temple on way from work or on way from a visit to a friend's house, they cannot?

They warned me last week when I went to Big Temple in Tanjore for wearing jeans :facepalm:

Pretty stupid rule this .High court(or no one else) has no business deciding what I should wear or not to temples as long as its not crass .

Haven't gone to a temple for more than a decade. These stupid rules will make it even easier to escape when mother or girlfriend asks me next time :yess:

This is ridiculous but have to say in big south indian temples you have to wear dhoti and sometimes remove the shirt as well.dhoti sellers ki to chandi ho gayi

I don't get this'remove the shirt'issue.Why is shirt less more sankari than with shirt.

We had gone to Guruvayur with in laws .My husband and father in law refused to go in because they wouldn't let some punda tell them to remove their clothes.

I was offended when the priest shouted at me and mother in law to remove the pallu from the head(as done in most north temples)and left.We had both worn sarees to abide by the dress code.

Mother in law got disgusted by the way the priests were treating the huge crowd like a herd of cattle.Finally we all came back without the darshan.

What fine role models these control freak priests make.

I like the temples in Goa.....Large open entrances to the temples ,the way it should be .

Shorts are bad, but jeans ? :wall: People wearing dhotis only without covering the top part of their torsos should also be prohibited . It is not a pretty sight for anybody to endure in temple visits.

Follow the dress code or don't go to temple.

Or stop going to these temples with these bouncers for priests.

It depends on the individual and if one stop going to the temples its their choice.personally even I dont like these rules of dhoti ,naked upper body (I had to remove my shirt in ujjain mahakal temple,in srisailam as well and was pretty angry,but then there was a separate line for men) but then I thought its okay as I am not going their regularly and 'ek do baari kar bho liya to kya harz hai'

First and foremost, we should stop putting money in the Dakshina boxes at these temples. Please help poor people directly. Contribute to those NGO that really work for poor people rather than donating money to any temples.

 I am neither for nor against this as I don't know the reasoning behind such moves. Since, there are so many random things coming up, it is better to have a national group / committee with members from diverse background that goes through these requests and passes the laws accordingly. 

Now if there is a reasonable reason to not wear jeans, I am willing to wear something else. If it is an unreasonable demand, the national committee should not pass it. In which case, I am ok to wear jeans to temples. The national committee should also ensure that such things are not thrown at citizens randomly. 

I remember that in France, they had renamed many of English words to French to not dilute their language. See below:

The spokesman said: "The word derived from the brand iPod. Its usage in French is causing confusion." It is the latest move by the nation's panicky heritage guardians, who have also tried to cut down the broadcasting of English rock songs and Hollywood films.

The list comes from the culture ministry's language enforcers, the General Commission for Terminology, guided by the Academie Francaise.

The stuffy Academie decides what the rules of the language are. It has no English equivalent.

The website also reveals French people have adopted English-sounding phrases that are not even in use. It says they should stop referring to a snack bar as a "scramble" and say "kiosque".

And women who want a make-over must no longer say "re-looked" but use "remodeller".

The Terminology Commission insisted: "France can adapt to the modern world."

Let me get this straight-the Madras high court has decided the dress code on  temples.?? i wonder if they have the temerity to suggest similar dress codes to Mosques and churches.It should be left to the Temples to enforce their own dress code.The hindus have taken government interference in their religion as a way of life and thats a damn shame.
