Indian Hunters vs Sri Lankan Fake Lions

Venue: Mirpur / Dhaka

Date: 03/01

Time: 13.30 GMT (19.00 IST and 8.30 EST)

Lions are said to have become extinct around 37000 BC in SL even before humans arrived on this beautiful Island. There is no creditworthy evidence of Lions having even existed in SL. However, Lions still live on in Sri Lanka through the folklore. So how did lions folklore come in to existence in Sri Lanka? The story of the Lion is believed to have originated in the 6th century BC when Vikramasinghe, a famous hunter, battled a Lion. The legend of the Lion was born out of the magnificent fable of Vikramasinge's deadly encounter with the King of the Jungle.

On one of his errands to search food in the jungle, Vikramasinghe was battling exhaustion. To recharge his batteries, he decided to take a short nap. Soon he entered in to a deep sleep only to be awakened by a harsh noise. He rubbed his eyes to find his worst nightmare come alive. In front was a wild bull staring at him in anger. Unfortunately Vikramasinghe was wearing a red outfit. Bulls are said to attack red. The bull charged at him frantically and Vikramsinghe had to run for his life. While running he thought about his family and said his last prayers. However on that day God was kind to him. The chasing bull slipped, hit a big rock and collapsed on the ground. Sensing the opportunity, Vikransinghe hunted the animal down.

On returning back, his community asked him a lot of questions about his adventure. And never to shy away from telling a good story, Vikramsinge described his victory over the animal in unbelievable details where the bull was portrayed as a lion. And thus was born the legend of the Lion.

Stories about Lions being found in India were known to the Lankans but now they had this wonderful animal on their Island too (through Vikramasinghe's account). Since no one had seen an actual Lion on the Island, people inquired about his appearances. Vikramasinghe, the only known source, described the animal in details. Based on Vikramasinghe's description, artists, sculptures and story tellers weaved their imagination to strengthen the Lion's folklore. Below is what many believed how a Lion looked like:

For centuries, stories about lion's bravery and gracefulness became ingrained in the Sri Lankan culture. So much so that its cricket team came to symbolize the spirit of the Lion - bravery, gracefulness, etc.

When it comes to the Hunters, they have just managed to come out on top of the Markhors. But that was due to pure luck as who knows if Hunters had batted first (bowled second), the result could have been a different. So will the Hunters always be lucky to get out of the jail somehow? Surely, Lions, the king of the jungle, wouldn't give the Hunters a chance however lucky the Hunters might be.

In fact the star lion fan, Mahaa Raavanna, has proudly announced - "Hunters are supposed to be fearless and brave.. indian ftbs and pie chuckers are cowards who are hilariously exposed as soon as they get difficult conditions ex:pune t20."  So what could be more difficult than battling a lion?

For the Lions, the writing is already on the wall - Hunters will be shown their true place. The last one standing would be the mighty and gracious Lion. SL fans would be out all night rejoicing the defeat of the cowards who put on the masks of brave hunters:

The Hunters don't even have a fighting change against the mighty Lions:

Meanwhile in India, the famous Lion Hunter has this to say:
