Is Australia as usual peaking at the right time when KO stage approaches?

Aus as a team (and Steven Smith) usually peak at the right time. They started a bit weak, but are they peaking as KO stage approaches?

If Mohali is a batting pitch, then they have batting to out bat India.

Well......australia didn't do too good in T20's....only once they came to final.

Even if there is little bit of turn then India become many times better...

BTW dhoni will certainly use yuvi and raina a lot more against Ozzies

A team has to play proper spinners and also bowl their overs to take advantage of turners :winky:

Against Aussies we will be able to managed nevertheless. Aus only have Zampa and Maxwell who are slower bowlers and Maxwell is the same level as Raina. Even if we play the way we have continued to do so, i.e. Ashwin and Jadeja bowling 4 and Raina maybe 2, that will still be 10 overs of spin for India vs just 6 for Aussies. That's a significant advantage. IMO curators and groundsman should be roughing up the pitch even as we speak trying to make it spin friendly.

I don't like to worry about pitches too much .... If the pitch is as per my liking, great! If not, I would play horses for courses and make the pitch as per my liking

The problem is that Aussie batting lineup is so far ahead of the rest on flat pitches, it's pointless to get into a ba-off with them. They bat all the way down till 10 and even if you get 3-4 wkts, they still have plenty of batting depth available. IMO we need to have wkts to suit our strength - spin - as that's what's called home advantage and I see nothing wrong in exploiting the advantage. After all in the WC2015 SF how come we got such a flat patta at Sydney when it's supposed to be the most spin friendly track in Australia? Fact is every team prepares pitches which suit them and this is what NZ and Aus did the last WC. All I'm saying is we do the same.

Ind has played on wkts that has assisted spin so far so the trend is likely to continue at Mohali .... The pitches are in the hands of the administrators / organizers (ICC in this case may be)

A good team should be able to deliver on the surface it is presented with

Enough  with these stupid peaking threads!!

Each team starts afresh for each match without thinking if they have won the last 10 ,lost the last ten,got a loss away or peaking and all.

You might see Australia smashing us then get knocked out  by windies or they might crash tomorrow, previous matches are irrelevant

^ Yes but unfortunate reality is that curators do their own thing in India. They do not consider Indian strengths.

That's where BCCI and state associations should come in. Directive should be given to prepare a turner at all the Indian venues. We should get tracks which play to our strength, not neutralise it. Of course there's no guarantee we will win on a turner, just like we lost against Kiwis, but I would rather go for pitches which gives us the best chance to win. And against Aussies our best chance to win is on a turner.

I hope the trend of India getting turners continues

And I don't really care about being a "good" team as long as we win. You don't get a trophy for being a good team but for being a winner.

It is hard for bad teams to be winners :winky:

There's a difference in being a good team and being a good team in all conditions. India is the best around on turners and a pretty good one on patta. Aussies on the other hand are outstanding on pattas and quite average on turners. I would rather win the tourney by being good on turners than being very good on pattas and bowing out to Aussies.

What if a team gets turner in one game and a patta in another .... That's why good teams try to control what they can control - their selection, strategy, performance, etc.

If the tourney were being held away from home, I would've been fine. But the fact that we are the host nation, we should make every effort to get the pitches which give us the best chance to win. Case in point the B'desh pitches in Asia Cup where the pitch changed from a seaming paradise to a brown one depending on B'desh's preferences. Exhibit 2: WC 2015 SF where the supposedly spin friendly Sydney track suddenly morphed into a patta and what almost always happens whenever India plays at Sydney.

As I said, if the pitches help Ind great! .... If not, I would still not worry too much about it as at the end of the day good teams try to control what they can control. If they don't they can lose on favorable conditions too, for e.g. Ind vs NZ
