express bowling Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 (edited) After the first 5 overs or so, it was not a batting wicket. The ball started to grip the surface and became slower after pitching. Some balls kept low. It is not easy to score quick runs on such surfaces. Finch scored his 43 mostly in the first 5 overs. After that period, apart from Kohli scoring 82 n.o , the two other highest runs were 31 by Maxwell and 21 by Yuvi. Gunner Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 (edited) At the end of the batting powerplay, the Aussies looked set for 180+ Our bowlers assessed the conditions well and brought us back into the game with timely wickets. Edited March 28, 2016 by Gunner CG and adi B 2
chewy Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 In this World T20, India has the best bowling unit. They have all bases covered and two world class spinners in Ashwin and Jadeja. Yesterday Jadeja was brilliant. When Aus were off with a flyer, Jadeja gave nothing away in his first two over after PP and kick started the bowling fightback. CG 1
diga Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 Agree with OP.. on the same ground, Pak conceded 190+ runs and Ind conceded 30 fewer taking 2 additional wkts. Our bowling is really underrated CG 1

Our bowling is really underrated The nature of that pitch was different. The ball was not slowing down after pitching ...like it did in our match against Australia after the PP overs. Our bowlers have bowled well though, except the first 2 overs from Ashwin and 1 from Bumrah. Edited March 29, 2016 by express bowling
diga Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 ^ agree the pitch was different, but by no means a dust bowl like Nagpur

zen Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 In Ind vs Aus game, the batting got relatively difficult as the match progressed. In the first 5-7 overs, the ball is usually coming on to the bat .... 160 was a par score In fact, Ashwin wasn't used when the ball got old and the pitch got relatively slower. His 2 overs with the slightly older ball and on slowing pitch potentially could have helped Ind more express bowling 1

If you have two specialist spinners, you have to try to bowl them out when the pitch has slowed down It is a tad unfair on Ashwin too as as a spinner he first does the difficult job of bowling with a new ball and if he goes for runs (there is more than 50% chance of that happening early on on such pitch as the batting side wants to make the most of PP), he is not brought back when he could actually be more useful with the older ball and on relatively slower pitch diehardpacer 1

Even if a bit slow, right handed batsman like Watson and Maxwell would have taken him apart.

For e.g. iirc, Murali finds bowling to Lara more difficult than to Sachin .... Since there is a thread discussing best T20 inning, Hussey (left hander) took apart Ajmal (off spinner) For me there is no such set formula when there is a bowler of much better quality than others in your team. If it is choosing b/w which part timer (Yuvi vs Raina for e.g.) to bowl, I could consider the batting hand of the batsmen, besides the bowling form of the part timer Edited March 29, 2016 by rett express bowling 1
Captain Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 The only real hero in our win vs the Aussies was Virat Kohli. He maintained his composure and played a brilliant innings when the pitch wasn't exactly batsman friendly. Our bowlers did a good job to contain the Aussie total but it was bound to happen as the pitch got slower and the ball wasn't coming on to the bat as the innings progressed.

He is no way comparable to Murli. Murli was in a different league altogether. diehardpacer 1

If not, let's see how Yuvi and Raina bowl in PP Raina probably didn't bowl at all due to the same reason as Ashwin. Dhoni always tries to bowl left arm spinners to right handers. If Aus had more lefties, Ashwin would have bowled more.

Aus had Finch batting in the PP so if Yuvi (or Jadeja) were that good as Ashwun esp with the new ball, Dhoni would have used them .... What happens if a batting line up has no left-handers, would Ashwin be dropped or not bowled at all? As I said, such strategies don't work with your key bowlers. It would be similar to how WI would bowl not bowl Naraine depending up on which hand the batsmen bats with diehardpacer 1
