Great article about one of my favorite bowlers. What's interesting is so many of his team mates thought that he could have been a good batsman too but he never fulfilled his potential and regressed as a batsman.

Just had a nostalgia trip thinking of Sportstar. Remember me and my friends collecting those posters from the magazine to put up on our walls at home. Fun times.

On topic, Srinath was a hard working bowler. Always use to bend his back to get any help from the pitch.

Yes bro....lots of fond memories about Sportstar and Sportsworld.  Buying a new copy and reading the interesting articles word by word.

Even India Today used to carry really awesome articles on cricket. Mostly by Harsha Bhogle. And the ones physical copies I had, they had carried consistent articles on Srinath being genuinely quick.

Srinath is now a distinguished match referee in the ICC. It is great to see him there. Did not follow cricket when he was playing, but always looked a great person and gained respect for that.

One thing I cannot forget is that - in an environment where trundlers seemed to be coming off a production line- when Sri was quick he was really quick.   I recall a spell he bowled to an NZ team- he had them jumping and dancing on the pitch, and it ended in a batsman getting poleaxed (IIRC) by a ball through the grill.  

 

So many years ago (is it more than fifteen?) and I can still recall my wonder at what I was seeing. The aggression didn't last of course, the second after the ball hit the batsman, Sri was apologetically waving at the NZ stretcher bearers and medical staff to rush in.
