my opinion:

1) Nic Cage is a maverick genius who needs to be properly channeled by a good director and a good scripts. If he gets these two things, he is capable of genius level performance as in "Adaptation". Way too many times, he does stupid roles for money and gets caught doing stupid acting. Normally actors like washington, edward norton have the talent to somehow stand tall among ruins. Somehow they will find a way to come out of a disastrous movie unscathed. Nic Cage doesnt have that talent. He isnt a charismatic actor either. But given a good director, he is capable of a genius level performance on par with hanks or spacey.

 

2) I want to say John Cusack, but Cusack never looked stupid so many times on the silver screen like nic cage. Nic Cage is like Keanu Reeves with genius level acting every now and then. Nic Cage is like John Malkovich, doing way too many stupid roles in a single lifetime.

 

3) Spacey > washington > norton > cusack > cage > hawke > clooney

 

4) Yuvraj singh.

hmm he isnt a bad actor per say. loved him in Gone in 60 seconds....its just the films he picks. No serious actor is going to touch National Treasure. He has picked some terrible films.

Interested thread :)

 

1) I like Cage as an actor-  he is a bit of an oddball. Youre right FAR too many rubbish films. Recently come out in a  film about a guy told by God to hunt Osama Bin L; its getting SLATED in reviews. BUT - as you say - he is good in good films, with good scripts and directors. Having said that, I havent seen his best films like Leaving Las Vegas, have seen Adaptation

 

2) I was thinking Sam L Jackson, maybe Cage is better version - because they both churn out quite alot of garbage, but occasiionally come up with something good. Not sure about Cusak, he is okay, but Cage is a much better actor?

Denzel has this ability to transcend a rubbish script , and (i know you said to ignroe charisma, but to me its a core part of an actors ability) DW oozes charisma. There is so many cr@p action films he is in that work solely due to him. But put him in the hands of agood director (Zemeckis in FLIGHT) and he is another level.

 

I think  Clooney has that too and rate him highly for his versatility, euqally convincing as an assassin in The American as he is as a goof in somelike like Burn After Reading. Big fan of Norton too,awesome in American History X. Ethan Hawke should act in more films more often, when ive seen him (Boyhood, Before the Devil knows Your Dead, Training Day - he has been v good)

Not a bad actor at all. Anyone seen Bad Lieutenant? His finest work. Just made some terrible choices in choosing movies. May be he needed the paycheck.

Big fan of his...."Put the Bunny back in the box" should be the greatest movie quote of all time.

 

He does go overboard at times,but that's what works for him...I saw these clipping on youtube where he thinks he has become a vampire(don't know the name of the movie) but either that is pure genius or just crazy over-acting*10000...similarly another scene where the put bees on his face...boderline genius/craziness

 NC is a great actor. But is in DeNiro mold where the quantity is hurting his quality. I guess they have feeding mouths, but it is considered to be a sell-out, if you compromise talent for fortune and fame.

Cusack is not a serious actor to be in this list. He is Tier-2, compared to Denzel, Edwards.

Apples and oranges. SRK/AK/IK are from Bollywood/Indian style of drama while NC is Hollywood. Don't compare HW actors with BW.

Agree. He is picky when he can deliver.

Are you a Cusack fan? I can't consider him to be discussed among actors/acting. He is a regular HW fare.

IK is a character actor playing bits and pieces role in HW and A-listed in BW. How do you rate them together?

None of these can pull a movie by themselves. Others are in different league all together.

 

Obviously, Kevin Spacy Or Clooney have done not so good work in few places as well and Cage is done quite good in many movies. He is a decent actor no doubt. But with average movies that he has done, loads of them, he appears to be average as well. But is a decent.

I don't think Clooney has too many blockbusters either,but yeah good actor but I haven't seen a lot of range from Clooney either.
